Well,

I am in the middle of learniing Hebrew but do not know my English.   I have started  participles with Hebrew and am really lost how to translate.  Later I see passive participles ettc..  I am sure there are lots more things.   What is a good reference for me to get?

    You are correct that it is almost essential that you have a good foundation in English (or in whatever language you are planning to use) before you can understand another language as a second language.  There are a number of English grammars on Amazon which have been rated by purchasers.  I would suggest that you use Amazon's advanced search and search for the keywords "English grammar."
