Hello All,
I just installed Windows 8, and I tried to update my Logos
4.6 Service Release 2 (4.60.0.3010)
But it's giving me an error
"Error writing to file: ~\Logos\en-US\logos4.exe.mui verify that you have access to that directory"
Please help
As Windows 8 has not yet been released, we cannot fully support Logos 4 on that platform yet so our solutions might be a bit limited at the moment.
However, we would be quite interested in seeing your log files. You can post them to this thread per the instructions here: http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging
That information should allow us to troubleshoot this issue more effectively.
Thanks,
Has there been any progress on this issue? I have the same problem; cannot install 4.6 from 4.5c due to the same error.
Hi,
I solved the problem by REINSTALLING Logos, so yea...not the best option.
So just what did that entail? Did you have to uninstall it, then reinstall?
Question: Are all your books and layouts, etc. all stored on LOGOS server, and if so did they all came back once you reinstalled, or did you essentially start from scratch, and have to download everything? Anything specific I need to consider, problems you encountered etc.
I have some early works that (if I remember correctly) they were "converted" somehow, and downloaded...bottom-line, I don't want to loose my library!...I don't want to start from scratch!
Please let me know, and thanks in advance for your response [:D]
Yea...I had to delete everything and re install.....you might not have to do that you can try some other way.
All the books that you bought from Logos will come back, layouts, and everything, but you will have re-download them which Logos 4 will automatically do when you re-install. Which depending on how much you have and how fast is your internet, it can take awhile. I didn't run into any problems while re installing
Thanks...at least it worked for you!
What do you mean "try some other way"? something you know, or just assume might be available?
Thanks again for your help Brother!
I don't know any other way, I thought you might.
Jack
Thanks Jack...I will wait until tomorrow to see if a Logos mod chimes in with "options"...if not...I will take your route! Appreciate your assistance. Just hope I don't need to do it again with the "official" version of Windows 8!
John
Jack,
It isn't only W8 that gets that kind of error... W7 gets it often enough that I've had to report it... even had to reinstall twice... but I learned after the 1st reinstall (which followed an uninstall) how to minimize the pain. The same error message has happened 6 times to me now (error writing to file...), though WHICH file & directory Logos can't write to has varied. Why so many times? Beta... I get more opportunities to have the failure than do those who install only the released verseions. Here are the solutions that have worked for me.
These worked for me. YMMV.
Thanks for your response. I think this was answered above, but want to be REALLY SURE...when doing a complete wipe and restore, does ALL my preferred settings (layouts, prioritized books, screened out resources, etc.) ALL come Back? Which would mean that all of those reside on Logos servers.
Please tell me yes they do![:S]

I believe they do. (All settings I checked & cared about came back. YMMV, as I recollect a few posts to the effect that Sync 2 didn't yet cover some items. Not sure if any you mentioned are on that list, but the vast marjority--if not all--should be there.
But if you wipe the disk it all has to be downloaded, including the resources--when then have to be indexed. If you have a big library that can take a VERY long time... I'd suggest using one of Dave Hooton's procedures to SAVE the resources & settings you already have... transfer them back after you reinstall the s/w, & then it's pretty painless. They're well tested.
Use method 2 here: http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers
Make sure everything has synced! Don't work offline just before wiping, and don't wipe if there was a yellow triangle over the sync arrows the last time you had Logos open.
First off...thank you to everyone who assisted! It worked, and took about 10 min. First I made sure everything was synced as fgh suggested. Then:
What "I" did was use the below steps, from method 2 (not all).
First, I made a backup of the below folders ONLY. Then I Downloaded/saved Logos4 from the provided link. Next I uninstalled ONLY LOGOS4 (not Prerequisites). Then reinstalled Logos4, and REPLACED the backed-up folders referenced below...and viola! I now have 4.6. (I hope it will work with additional updates seamlessly...time will tell)...Me...well I am Happy [:D]

Me...well I am Happy
Glad to hear it worked for you... I thought it would. I'd sure hope Logos is reading & has some insight into how to fix this problem. I do NOT believe it's specific to any particular version of Windows but to Logos... something about the update and/or sync process, though I don't have the tools to figure out what. But it's happening often enough (can't access some file or directory) that a fix is needed... :-)
Blessings!
