Layout problem in "An Introduction to the New Testament: Contexts, Methods and Ministry Formation"

There is a layout issue with this resource (I assume it is a resource issue as visible on Logos 4.6 (Windows) and Bible 3.0.2 (iOS))

As in the diagram below there is some missing text at the end of page 292.

The text actually appears on page 297 as shown below:

In the first show some of the text is highlighted as a result of a search as below:

This suggests - to me - that the text is actually in the right place but not being displayed there.

When I right click on the text on page 297 the information in the selection box suggests that there is actually different text there which is not being displayed.

It is possible that this is related to the fact I have a reading plan working through this.

Can anyone else with this resource confirm whether they see this or not?

Thanks, Graham

    Graham:

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

I was able to reproduce your issue by creating a reading plan for pp 293-310 in that book to be read in one session, today.

I will be creating a case for this, but you can get around it by disabling your reading plan visual filter. To do this, you uncheck the box in the visual filters drop down (the Venn Diagram icon).

Column view seemed to handle the situation better; so if you want the visual filter on, another work around is use column view.

I hope that helps in the short term.

    Hi Alan

Thanks for the quick response - and good / interesting to know it is linked to the reading plan filter.

I believe I have seen something similar earlier in the book - and in other books too - but this one stood out!

I will be creating a case for this

Do you know if the fix you are working on should address these problems in general or is it resource specific? Or does the fact that it appears in both Windows and iOS environments mean it is very much a resource issue as opposed to a code issue.

To do this, you uncheck the box in the visual filters drop down (the Venn Diagram icon).

I can confirm that this does work in Logos 4. However, I do most of my reading on the iPad where I don't have that capability.

    Thanks, Graham

The issue is related to the underlying format of this book (and especially this section of the book with the border that you see). The reading plan visual filter has to break up the paragraph that spans multiple pages and doing so causes it to unintentionally not behave well with the table that it is in (and so it gets rendered after the table).

This unfortunately means you may continue to see this issue crop up if this book (or others) contains similarly formatted sections and your reading plan visual filter falls within that section. However, the good news is that for the majority of the book where that formatting isn't present, the visual filter should not cause such issues.

Another piece of good news, without going too deep into the technical details, is that this particular format that is causing the issue is a legacy format that doesn't exist in newer books. In fact, we have run-time processes that try to convert this legacy formatting to more modern ones when in paginated views (due to other issues like wrapping columns, etc). This means that if you are seeing it occur, you might try a different orientation or number of columns. I understand this may not be a pleasant work around.

    Thanks Alan

That makes a lot of sense - appreciate the insight and the work going on to address the issue.
