Can I limit a Bible Word Study by book? I want to study the use of words in the Psalms only. Can I create a passage-limited guide using the edit guide template?

    Welcome John

Word Study works with words and not passages. So first create an Exegetical Guide containing only Word by Word,  then run it for the passage and click on the blue hyperlinks for each lemma (if you hover, you will see it links to Bible Word Study).

Thanks for that. Your response is helpful, but I don't think it really answer my Q. The Bible Word Study allows me to look at a word, say Hebrew "halal", and see its grammatical relations - the objects of the word, the subjects, and so on. I was hoping to be able to do that book by book. For example, I'd like to know what the objects of the Hebrew word "halal" are in the Book of Psalms. I can go through the grammatical relations one by one in the Bible Word Study, but I was hoping there would be a way of generating a quick report - e.g. "The object of the word halal in the Psalms is always either God, his name or his word." I could do that if it were possible to generate a Bible Word Study (showing grammatical relationships) with only the Book of Psalms as the resource I'm searching instead of the whole OT. Doesn't sound as if that's possible.

Ahhh!  BWS doesn't have that degree of tailoring. You would have to set up a Syntax Search (in the File menu, depending on your base Library) to explore subject and object directly in a single book. If you can look at  Andersen-Forbes Phrase Marker analysis in Ps 10.2 you will see that the search would be structured something like

To allow for any order with the Verb I use "Unordered". The "Or" allows for the possibility that Subject and Object are in different clauses, or both in the same Clause (Ps 22:27).

Thanks Dave. I'll have a go at this when I have time, but I appreciate your help.

PS I looked at your bio. I'm a fellow Aussie; I live in Geelong and teach OT at the Reformed Theological College here.

Now I definitely know that the forum time is out by an hour!

I've lived in Melbourne the last 18 years but our family is in Wollongong, NSW. We stay with them during school holidays, though.

Sorry, this is not currently possible.

We will add the ability to limit by a book (or any reference range) to Bible Word Study in a future version of the software.

Thanks Bradley. I'm glad this is on the radar; it would be very useful for comparisons between books.
