L4 in a virtual Machine / L5 as my main install.

We've learned that L5 is going to require more than XP. We've also learned that it will replace an extant L4 install.
The solution is to have either another machine, or a separate account.
I had been considering running the L5 beta in an XP mode virtual machine in Windows 7. That won't work since L5 requires Net 4.5, which won't run on XP.
On the way home from class today I was thinking about the fact that I really didn't want to create a separate account on my machine to beta test on. Then I had the idea to Install the Current L4 (4.6x) onto my XP mode virtual machine as a functioning backup and when L5 comes down I'll install that on top of my actual computer account.
That way if L5 does experience "up to a week" of catastrophic down time, I at least have L4 available in a virtual machine.
Installing L4 now.

With a similar strategy in mind I will install L5 into a Virtual Machine running Windows 8 RTM. Then we can see how everything works in a native .NET 4.5 environment. I don't intend downloading resources, so Method 3 will be my choice for a "quick" installation.

My plan as well... when I get there.Dave Hooton said:Method 3 will be my choice for a "quick" installation.
Right now XP mode keeps choking and entering endless "reboot" cycles while attempting to install .Net 3.5sp1. Each fix is doing the same thing.

Has the update succeeded?

Yes. [:)]
There was something wrong with XP mode, so I reset the VHD and created a Virtual Machine just for Logos. I managed to install L4 4.6 and L3.0g on it over the last two days. Indexing finished this afternoon, and just in time now that the Logos 5 wiki (http://five.logos.com/) is up and a Sept. 21 alpha3 seems to be internal somewhere.
Bring on the beta!

I just happened to think that making a copy of that VHD might be REALLY smart. [;)]

Mac OS X variation is installing Mountain Lion as primary OS for Logos 5 with Snow Leopard in a virtual machine with Logos 4.
Other option is creating another user account on primary OS for Logos 5.
Keep Smiling [:)]

Mac OS X variation
Have a spare 500GB external drive, so I installed OS 10.7.4 (Lion) there. Just downloaded and opened L5. Predict that Mac users will hate the very Windows-like UI. You have corrupted the Menu Bar [:(]

Yes, but then I have to turn down my system security settings to enable cross account document sharing to work on sermons and the like. (bleh)Other option is creating another user account on primary OS for Logos 5
Nevertheless, because I can't stand it I have just created an alpha account and have initiated download and install of L5 on that one. (I'm hopless that way.)
