Hightling delay

Is anyone else have this issue? While in reading view, every time a section is highlighted or then an highlighting style is applied, a delay of 4-5 seconds occurrs and the screen goes black. This does not seem to happen when not in reading view.  Any help or ideas would be appreciated. This just started in the past week or two.
