Too Many Classic Commentaries Release at Once

I'm excited about all the Classic Commentaries, but I wish Logos could spread the releases out little. The past several months I have been inundated with prepubs and the Classic Commentaries make up a large part of it. In November the Classic Commentaries alone are over $300 and that doesn't include any other prepubs.

It's easier to pass up a prepub price because many times I can get the resource close to that price by calling customer service or waiting for a sale, but the CP prices are so low and such a good deal that if you don't jump on them now you lose out.

I know that Logos doesn't make any money on them until they reach production, so I understand their desire to release them as quickly as possible, but it's just a lot all at one time.

Am I alone in this - or is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Ronald, I share your frustrations, however I took the view early on that I couldn't commit to buying all of the classic commentary sets I'd like because to do so would stretch my finite resources. This has "painfully" ( - may be that's a little exagerated) passing on a lot of sets I'd like to have in my library.

There are other Community Pricing resources I really want to get my hands on, and I guess that Logos will only get round to producing those once they've published a lot of other CP resources ahead of them in the production line. For that reason, part of me is glad they're issuing so many of the classic commentary sets in one go, since I hope that will free up production resources to devote to other things (such as the Hastings 5-vol dictionary set we've been waiting a long time for, and the CH Spurgeon sermon set, which I hope we will see produced more quickly than the said Hastings set!)

They've had issues with this with pre-pubs for years of various different types. They've always seemed to release two to three, or even a half dozen pre-pubs at the same time. I've even seen them release four or five high priced prepubs and you have to just delete one or more of them.

There are ways to play the system and they know there are "ways." Even though we are the ones playing the system, they know it's good for them so they let us continue to play the system.

I can't just get on here and tell you how to do it, but you need to experiment around with the prepubs being released.

I was forced to make this decision again this week. I am committed to obtaining all of the Classic Commentaries series as they leave Pre-Pub. I had to cancel my orders for the Moravian, Waldenses, and Works of John Wycliffe. Though I did hold on to the Andrew Murray collection.

I must disclose the Charles Stanley sale on Logos & Vyrso had something to do with the money crunch. [:D] (Sales end tonight!)

If I recall correctly, any new content is offered as a purchased upgrade while the Logos search engine and UI is a free upgrade. Remember when Logos 4 shipped? The Bible People, Places, and Things content actually cost us to upgrade. The "minimal" upgrade was just Logos 4 without this enhanced content. If the Classic Commentary series is added to a base package I believe there will be an upgrade price to obtain the new content. I may be wrong, but that is how my faulty memory recalls it.

If the Classic Commentaries are included in the Logos 5 package I hope those who previously purchased them would get some type of a discount to upgrade. The CP price is a very good deal, but still quite an investment.

Logos does have a reputation of taking care of their customers - something I am confident they will continue.
