Turn off automatic Information window

It would be useful to have the option to turn off the automatic Information window. This could be done either in a Setup option. Another idea that is consistent with the user interface is to add a Follow option in the panel menu for the Information window. Then a person could turn on or off the automatic follow feature whenever they want.

Hi Harry,

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your request. Why not just close the window as it is not required to be in a layout? Or float it and minimize it until you need it .. Or even combine it with other reports in the same window and only select the information window tab when you need it. it will not populate if it is hidden. just some ideas with existing features.

My concern is because it changes the word it display every time I move the mouse. If I want to see information about a word, I will ask for it with the Information option in the right-click pop-up context menu. I want to view the information, I just don't want the information to change just because the mouse moves.

Right now it "follows" wherever the mouse is pointing. So I find it often shows me information about things I don't want (often silly things like the word "the"). It also stops displaying the information that I wanted.Because it is doing all this processing and constantly searching the library, it slows down the system and it uses a lot of battery power to access the hard disk so much when I am running the laptop without a power outlet (e.g. on a plane).

For example, if I click on a link in the Information Window to view an article in refers to, it will change the contents of the information window if I copy of phrase from the article or move the mouse over a word in the article.

I realize some people like it to automatically follow the word you are pointing to. So my suggestion is to have the Follow option selectable in the Link section of the Resource Panel menu, just like it is for some other tools, such as Bible Explorer and Cited By.

In fact this is how I am working around it now. I am hoping that it is not actually doing the searches when the panel is not the top tab.

Thanks for the clarification. I believe L3 used the ctrl key, which if pressed would not change the info window. Perhaps this or a setting that required the ctrl key to be pressed for the info window to populate would work?

That still works in version 4. Version 3 also has an option to turn off automatic display of information.
