I give up

I have been trying to study a passage I am planning to preach Sunday for the last hour. I like to take notes when I study because it helps me think and organize my observations. That is simply impossible with the current condition of the notes editor in L5. It was not great in L4 but at least it was workable.

I'm removing L5 tomorrow and loading my backup of L4. Maybe I'll give L5 a try again down the road, but all the bells and whistles do me no good If I cannot use the program for practical, everyday work.

Wise decision Fred - you will remember the stern warnings that came with the initial download instructions. Nobody can use a program for 'practical, everyday work' when it is expected that some versions may 'remain unusable for up to a week'.

This sort of low level testing is only suitable for those willing to install the Alpha on second user accounts or who are lucky enough to have two computers to play with. L4 remains on my lap top.

As noted elsewhere I am getting really poor notes performance in L5. I am assuming it is relating to the graphics issues which Bradley advises will be addressed in a future alpha.

I'm on a PC. But as previously reported the notes performance in L5 was significantly worse than L4. My CPU would peg out at 100% after typing just a couple of characters in a note. Part of it may be due to the graphics rendering issue; but it appeared from the logs that a lot was happening under the hood. I tried several different methods and layouts but could not find a way to make it useable.

I understand the stage L5 is in and have no problem with where its at right now. I just can't afford the time to test L5 as a separate task from using Logos to prepare sermons and lessons for church. I would also say (at least for me) there will need to be significant improvement before I transition to L5.

Hi Bob

I just started typing a note in L5 to prepare some devotional thoughts for a session this evening. It was very slow and so I decided to log in to my other account (on the same computer) running L4.6a B3 and write my note there.

I would estimate that on my computer (which may be affected by the graphics issues mentioned by Bradley) it was about five times faster typing notes in 4.6 (this is on Windows) than it is in the current alpha release of L5.

I tried typing in a new note file on both L4 and L5 using the same computer. There is a slight delay (a fraction of a second) in typed letters appearing in L5 over L4. Basically the screen shows what is typed immediately in L4 but in L5 I may get a letter or two ahead in my typing of what is being displayed. I am by no means a fast typist so that would make a difference from what others will see. I don't find the slight lag difficult to live with.

I couldn't work with that. We have a typewriter at church (yes we still own one) and there is a slight delay between hitting a key and hearing the letter print. It is unnerving. I have to make myself ignore the sound and seeing the letters and concentrate on typing. Multi-second? I'd throw in the towel.

Mostly, I do not use Logos Notes. Everything I type will show up—eventually. It is just a bit frustrating to see the delay.
