Suggestion: Shared Reading plan: Allow more than one group to participate

When currently making a shared reading plan, I am only able to share it with a single group. I would prefer to be able to read one plan with more than one group.

Here is the reason why: I am currently on a read-through-the-Bible-in-a-year plan. When somebody whom I'm discipling wants help reading the Bible, it would be great to invite them to read with me. We can then interact with the same text both asynchronously with community notes and in dialog. But I do not want to invite those people into my smallgroup group (with which I am also reading) but where we post multiple smallgroup specific information.I could see myself making many discipling groups with just two members but would want to have my reading plans shared across multiple groups.

Similarly, I would want to be able to make a community note sharable with multiple groups. Currently, just like reading plans I am only able to make a note sharable either with My Faithlife in general (which will not appear in any community notes tabs on faithlife.com and I also have no ability to specify a specific subset) or with a single group. I would optimally like to be able to check multiple groups with which I could share a community note (i.e. my smallgroup AND individual discipleship relationships I have established. While some other notes I may want to share church-wide). We don't support this because of the complicated privacy scenarios.

Example: You want to read through the Bible with two groups. One is your addiction recovery group, the other is the youth group. You take a note on a verse. Someone in the secret and closed addiction recovery group replies to your note. They are a stranger to people in the youth group. We either don't show this note to the youth group, or show it and "out" the recovering addict. And if we don't show it, but you reply, do the youth see your reply to a reply they can't see? Etc.

Community notes create community, and Faithlife is designed to put each person in charge of which community they're a member of. It's intentionally NOT like Facebook's "friends of friends" model where you are forcibly introduced to your friends friends. Letting you "bridge" two communities with one plan / document / comment stream would allow you to connect communities that may not all want to be in community with each other.

I agree with the model you are striving for... but I am having a hard time trying to figure out why I keep getting email notifications about posts from people I dont know... that is an area of needed improvement.

Could there be a way that a post would independently post to each of those groups? Then dialog would be within each group separately?

I guess I could just post the comment twice if I needed two groups to see it. Still, in my very short existence with faithlife, this is my #1 annoyance...maybe I need to stop thinking like facebook. I guess I was trying to think more like Google Plus. But you are wanting me to think like neither of them...I'm just not sure that this is best. But you're the boss so in the meantime I'll tailor my use to match your vision.

I'm guessing you "joined" a general group, like Faithlife Beta or something like that. Joining creates co-membership; if you want to observe but not share or join in a community, just "Follow" it. Or leave the group. :-)

You can also control your notifications, right down to choosing what notifications you want from what groups. It's in your profile settings.

The easier solution, and the one we planned for, is to make a separate group of people interested in this particular reading. People can be members of many groups, and you can just create a group for the people you want to share with. Even if some are members of different groups, whoever wants to can join that new group for the shared reading plan. (In the future groups will even support expiration dates, so they automatically get archived, making them even easier and more lightweight for classes, specific reading plans, etc.)
