A free desktop version?

There are many in my smallgroup who are being introduced to Logos for the first time through faithlife. They are using it currently only for a reading plan and community notes.

There is no way for them to use Logos 4 as to only read the ESV and interact with community notes, right? Or would subscribing to the Faithlife Study Bible enable this to a degree?

If not, I would recommend that this be do-able as a way to get people introduced to the Logos environment (similar to free package on iOS) and then to facilitate upgrades as time goes on.

Signing up for the Failthlife Study Bible will make all the resources available on the Logos Desktop along with the notes. Just make sure that they all use the same email for Study Bible, & Logos that they use for Faithlife.

Jacob - I don't know if I am following you… The engine is free; there are some free resources; the faithlife subscription is free. If they want to use the ESV, they could purchase it for $10… or they can use one of the free bibles. In essence, that is a free desktop version. Is that what you were wondering about or did I miss the heart of your question? [:)]

I guess I was asking if the free engine actually works with only an ESV (or even seeing if there was a way that something as basic as an ESV and the Faithlife study Bible would be able to work if they downloaded the free Logos 4 engine.

It probably is as simple as you say, I've just never installed a resource-less engine and wanted to see if anybody knew if having signed up for the mobile app or FSB would allow that free engine to have resources enough to use the software.

Creating an account and signing into the mobile app does NOT grant you licenses to those resources. You are able to use them on mobile, [but the resources could be removed… you don't own the license] but they are NOT available to you on L4 without acquiring a license. Some of those resources are free, so users may "purchase" them at no cost. Others, such as the ESV, are a minimal cost ($10). Remember, however, that things like reverse interlinears, prayer lists, etc. come only with the minimal cross grade or a base package.

There are a number of free resources from Logos and other publishers, and if one already owns a printed ESV, he/she is probably eligible to download a free resource package. See http://wiki.logos.com/Free_Logos_Books

The engine works well with just these - if one wants to use reverse interlinears, timelines, biblical places/people etc, the Minimal Crossgrade would probably be the next logical step.
