Personalized Offers

I received an email this morning with a great offer from Logos, or so I thought. When I opened the email it was for a bundle of 200 books. Normally this would be great but upon further investigation I found out I owned every single book in this "personalized offer." Why am I getting a "personalized offer" for a bundle of 200 books that I already own? How can this possibly be "personalized" if does not include even one book that I do not already have? Just wondering.

I don't think this issue is solely Alan's. I get lots of so called Personalised Offer emails, but almost every one I own the volumes 'offered'!!

Unfortunately, I've got into the habit of deleting them now, so haven't got any to forward. To be honest, I haven't checked them recently as they have never been specific to me!

PS On the subject of marketing - What's the point of having a phone-only offer - that was the last email I received. Phone times are difficult for international customers, time consuming etc. What'w wrong with good ole online deals. Are your 'phone monitors not getting enough to do with their time? Can't see the business sense of a phone only offer? Please enlighten me.

Same for me. There may be a one or two volumes in the offer that I don't own, but very few, and I have all the major books offered. It is strange to get a "personalized offer", and you already own 99% of what is being offered. My offer says, "You enjoy reading Thomas Nelson’s works—why not upgrade to the whole Logos collection?" That is true. I must enjoy reading them since I have already bought nearly everything in this offer.

It does say that I get up to $300 dollars off for what I have already bought. Well, that doesn't even cover the Word Biblical Commentary, much less the other 80% of the offer that I own.

But it really doesn't bother me to get these offers. It is no trouble to delete them. I just think Logos might want to check on how they might more effectively target these solicitations. It obviously isn't checking what is in someone's library.

To my mind, the offer (I also reeived it) may make sense for people who don't own the WBC series. If the original discount is applied on Logos' reduced selling price and not on the "Listing price", this may really be a great offer to get this series. If someone doesn't own the rest of the 200 books, he/she will get the first discount. If one owns a lot of the rest of the 200 (such as me), they will get this "up to $300" discount. This interesting and user-specific part of the offer is what calls for "phone only", I think (maybe the sales people have some negotiation freeway?). Also, Logos likes to get into phone contact with potential customers.

Since the value is in WBC, most probably Logos better had selected non-WBC-set owners for the mail.

I am not complaining about the offer and it's value, for someone who owns very little in this collection it is a great deal. I am complaining about the "personalized offer" part of it. It is obvious from this thread others have received the same offer so it is NOT personalized. I just wish Logos would be a bit more ethical in their marketing. I love Logos and do not want to see them succumb to strategies that make them appear less than honest as they grow larger.

We are always striving to improve our email marketing, and will be getting even better at sending users personalized offers.

I recently cancelled the "Personalized" e-mails, after sending a long list of complaints to Dan. The ones regarding this list included:

I got about 3 a day, instead of the announced 3-4 a month.
Most were for things I'd already ordered.
The rest were for things I had zero interest in.
All were for prepubs.

In other words, there was absolutely nothing "personalized" with those mails. Not with the choice of resources offered, and not with the prices offered either. It was just another prepub feed, and, getting the prepubs via RSS, I had deliberately chosen not to get the prepub mails. Or so I thought.

The more interesting mails, the ones I thought I was subscribing to via this list, seem to come via the Special list instead.
