4.6a Beta 4 New PBB syntax versus Beta 3 SF syntax

I was one who noted that the former beta 3 Sermon File syntax (like that of Libronix 3) did not actually "do" anything with the "speaker/locale" fields. These merely appeared at the beginning of each individual sermon.

With Beta 4 these 2 fields no longer exist AND the "syntax code" no longer appears within the document.

There could be many arguments made to support that last decision, especially in more "generic" PBB's. ie.: "cleaner" looking documents; more adherence to appearance of"original" documents etc., etc. All good.

BUT

This "new" Beta 4 code also NOW "super-cedes" the SF code which had been introduced in Beta 3 (which replicated Libronix 3's code).

NOW the former speaker/venue codes will NO longer appear in a Logos 4 PBB created Sermon file

Question: Was that the (planned for) intention?

Please Note: although these two fields were previously not "searchable, they at least did have merit in tracing/documenting sermons (how often preached/by whom/where etc.)

Does this distinction make sense?

Does anyone else see this as an issue?

I think they still should be there and an index created upon them. Particularly for a pastor i think is would be useful for them to know when and where they have preached a sermon, particular if they are part of a multi-campus or mulit-service church, as well as useful for when they preach at other churches, camps, conferences etc.

Personally I am not too worried about the speaker field (as I plan to use the PB tool to create track of my sermons) but would find the venue field very useful.

At the moment I am doing it simply using the various options available when creating the PB - I haven't really started using the specific codes available in 4.6a beta releases after from some experimentation.

I am preaching through a number of series at the moment and have a Personal Book associated with each series. I add each sermon as a chapter with individual .docx files for each chapter.

I use the Series Title field to clearly denote that these books relate to Sermon Series.

Then the search string "sermon series" AND edition:user" in the Library window will find all books relating to sermon series

I have created a collection "Sermon Series" for all books of this type and can search that as normal. The example below is looking for sermons which include a particular reference

So, its still fairly basic but provides the base for what I want to do.

As above, I am not currently using the SF codes provided in the beta but they would add value in tagging and searching.

As far as I understand the current implementation, it will work only if you make the word *.docx into one PB instead of several.

Also, regarding the venue and speaker discussion: if Logos doesn't implement these, since tags are free text, you may use those for keeping track of venues/speakers and they'll be in the index.

Multiple Word documents: yes, sure, but for Logos to build an index over multiple PB's they would need to have a separate "index book" that is automatically rebuilt when one of the books with index information is compiled. I don't see that now.

Yes, they would have to be an individual PBB "only" containing the files from "each" series.

And as already mentioned in another post, it would also be necessary to have a Collection titled"sermon File Series" in order to "find" the tags associated with this particular series. [In the Libronix 3 Sermon Files I simply added "Series:xxx" to a tag in order to find a specific sermon from that series.]
