1. Starting a search on Genesis I was offered many options that were missing a space:

2. I then did a search on Genesis2 in which Logos (un)helpfully corrected by adding the space. Usually a correct response.

3. So I added quote marks so that Logos would not autocorrect and found that the problem is that superscripts were not treated as superscripts.

What makes me think that this may be a programming problem is that the quotation in the Search box has the error but the actual text opened by a click does not have the error.

The suggestions are created by the indexer, and therefore the problems is either (a) with the resource, or (b) the indexing algorithm. In this case the indexing was very likely to have been done with L4, and therefore if it is a bug, it's an L4 bug.

However, wouldn't you want H₂O searchable? It seems to me that it's not as simple as just saying "ignore super/subscripts". The programmers have to make a decision whether to include/exclude, and it seems to me that as long as they're ignoring footnotes (which they are) then it is better on balance to include them, even if sometimes that results in something problematic. If L5 was a completely mature product that didn't require extra effort, then perhaps they could develop a more intelligent algorithm that more accurately decided whether to include/exclude.
