New resources Logos 5 only?

I got a bunch of resources downloaded, that are in fact new resource versions, on Logos 5 beta only. One example is Steve Green's MIDI Hymnal, version is 2012-10-08T18:07:31Z, on my Logos 4 it is 2009-11-05T18:37:01Z. I have done all the standard things on two computers and they do not download on Logos 4. I have not tried scanning the Logos 5 resource directory to see if they are picked up though; I can if you want me to.

Is this correct, are these Logos 5 updates only, or is there something wrong I can pursue as to why Logos 4 is not downloading them?

Sorry if I missed seeing a notice about this, I checked and didn't see anything.

These resources have been tagged with Preaching Themes (so that they can appear in the Sermon Starter Guide). For now, we have deliberately shipped them only to Logos 5 in order to beta test that new feature.

This does not mean that new resource updates will only be shipped to Logos 5.

The resources are compatible with Logos 4.6 (or maybe only 4.6a, I'd have to check), so they would install if you scanned them. We plan to release them (to all users, Logos 4.x and Logos 5.x) after Logos 5 ships. We just didn't want there to be a large resource update for Logos 4 users without having a good explanation as to why the resources were updated.

After Logos 5 ships, all new & updated resources will be made available for both Logos 4.6 and Logos 5.0; you will be able to download your pre-pub and CP titles even if you don't upgrade to Logos 5.

I don't think we posted an announcement in the forums about this; sorry for the confusion.

Bradley, I tried to update these new resources to my version 4 computer and it made somewhat of a mess of it.

I created network share Z: that was the Logos 5 resources folder. I did a Scan Z::. Restarted Logos 4, and soon thereafter it said Resources ready in the systray icon. I restarted Logos 4 again, and it brought everything in. However, my Logos 4 install is now one resource short (so it deleted a resource but did not replace it), and there were about 4 resources that .logos versions replaced .lbxlls versions, and it did not get rid of the older .lbxlls versions. This happened 4 times - PRSRC2003, PRSRC2005, SSBONI, OBJLESSRYRIE.

I could not figure out what resource was now missing, I tried SCAN again it found nothing. I restored my old Logos 4 Resource folder and started a reindex to get it back the way it was.

I have never felt SCAN is that reliable in large sets of resources, this may offer a clue that someone can take a look at.

To update on the things I saw wrong with further investigation:

The discrepancy of 1 was a Personal Book I built on October 8, that was current on both computers. It was not compiled on my Logos 4 installation after just doing a Scan and the subsequent update of resources that resulted.

43 of my 178 personal books now show an "Updated" date of Today, even though they were not recompiled. The reindex is still going, 92% complete right now. I am not sure these are related.

How did Scan cause a PB build to be deleted? And why did Updated dates change?

Assuming the RI's and LCV will also be updated to L4 users they can expect around 1.56 GB (Scholar's Silver Library).

Users updating to L5 can expect around 1.7 GB download (147 MB new to L5)

However, I noticed that my L5 installation does not have the the 4x template *.lbssgt files. Should I be concerned, as they seem not to regarded as "missing" by L5?

does not have = they are missing but not necessarily because I used Scan to get the resources from L4.

Study Templates are not supported in Logos 5. We realised that this was a feature we would not be able to finish for Logos 5 (the Mac implementation had never even been started), so we removed them.

I don't know for sure, but I'm going to guess that the "Index to Color Maps" and the "Color Photos" (at the end of the Table of Contents) have something to do with it…

I don't know the answer to this; we'd probably need logs to figure out what happened.

And why did Updated dates change?

Most likely, the PBs on the computer you scanned from were built after the ones on the computer doing the scan. Thus, they were all detected as newer versions and copied over. This caused their last updated date to be "today". (Last updated is the date the resource was discovered/installed, not the date it was last compiled.)
