I have had consistent indexer crashes this week. Yesterday i gave the rebuild indexes command and found it crashed again this morning.

Logs enclosed

To be honest, I think there is an underlying hardware problem with your computer. The crashes you experience tend to be unpredictable, unreproducible, occur fairly randomly, and are generally never reported by any other users. (I'm thinking particularly of the "Logos 4 crashed when away from my desk" thread.) When you have provided us with a crash dump, I haven't been able to extract any useful information out of it.

I don't know why this problem would seemingly only affect Logos (out of all the programs on your computer), but I have previously tracked down a crash (that only affected Logos) that turned out to be a CPU bug (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7004728/is-this-should-not-happen-crash-an-amd-fusion-cpu-bug), so I know it's possible.

    Overheating?

    Overheating?

It could be, but TCBlack has reported a number of crashes when "idle" (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/42239.aspx) or "away from my desk" (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/55386.aspx). I would assume the computer is idle and running cool at that point (but maybe he has a CPU-intensive screensaver installed?).

Overclocking is another common source of crashes. Even if you haven't overclocked the system yourself, some cheaper PC vendors buy lower-spec'ed CPUs and RAM, overclock them, and sell them as higher-priced components. If you have a non-name-brand PC, it may be worth checking your BIOS settings to confirm that everything is normal. (And, if your BIOS allows it, you could underclock your computer to see if that improves stability.)

I have noticed that mine seem to be the odd ones.

I think I would rule out overheating. No power wasting screensavers over here. No overclocking either, I've checked the chip out before and no issues.

Flaky RAM might be the culprit. I'll run a memtest86 on it tonight when I'm gone and see what I find in the morning.

Blowing out the dust once in a while helps too.

I've used some freeware programs to monitor my computer when I suspected overheating issues. The most helpful one I found is HWMonitor (search on downloads.CNET, or your favorite 'safe' download site). In my case it was a video card issue.

The case for flakey RAM grows... sideways.

I ran the Windows memcheck and... it seized up at 21% on the intense setting. But normal settings show no problem.

I'll re-run with the aforementioned memtest86 when I get a chance. I just wanted to fill in the blanks on this.

@Richard, I blow out my system a few times a year; and certainly did so recently when I replaced my hard drive.

    It wasn't the RAM.

After the nth crash of the indexer today I realized that most were crashing right at 59%. [^o)]

I dug into the Logs I have here and noted that each time that was the switch from the last resource being indexed and the next stage (merging the data?). [Note that the first logs I posted are quite different though]

The final resource merged was Nuevo Diccionario Biblico Certeza

I have no idea where I got it, or why. But, I'll not plan on using Spanish. I hid the resource, thus deleting it. and restarted the index. I just finished a few minutes ago. 100% done.

I have this in my library (since I have an account that has everything unlocked) but haven't experienced a crash.

Do you have logs from the (multiple?) crashes trying to merge indexes with this resource? It's possible that this specific resource could be at fault; logs would help confirm/disprove that hypothesis, or indicate that more research is needed.

I would suspect, as I saw before that it was corrupted on my disk. I would fully assume that unhiding it would download a fresh clean copy and all would be well.

    (I'll test that right now....)

    Not anymore. [:(]
