OT: Advice Pls - Macbook Air

Hi, am looking at getting a MacBook Air 13 inch 128GB maybe in pre-festive sales.

I know mac softare is a bit behind, is there a feature comparison table anywhere?
is anyone with a MBA irunning Windows in bootcamp or Parallels, to run windows and logos4windows version, if so whats the performance like (painful or acceptable or good), also how much xtra does it eat the batery life?
If PB available fo Mac, what to you use to prepare your PB source files, as I believe pages is doc not docx

What do you reckon, portablility/weight is of paramount importancce to me, as I am fairly mobile, the aluminium form seems faily durable..

3. One can use either Word for Mac or LibreOffice.

My MBA runs L4Mac without any trouble. It can do most things that L4Win can do.

MacBook Air RAM cannot be upgraded since the RAM is physically mounted to the surface of the motherboard. Recommend 4 GB of RAM.

If was shopping for a MacBook Air, would be looking at 2012 models, which have noticeably faster CPU's.

On Tue 23 Oct 2012, Apple has a public announcement planned; not know what model(s) will be refreshed.

I have experienced no problems with running L4Mac on my 13" 128 GB MBA.... its been a joy for me. Newer generation should run even better. Newer retina display is reported to be fantastic. My Mac experience on MBA has been MUCH better than my Logos experience on WIndows. In any case, my performance has been fast and reliable. In general, I advise always getting the most RAM you can afford.

I do use Word for Mac for PB, as Pages cannot save to docx (although can read it... basically). Editing a docx in Pages alters some formatting. In any case, its out for PB purposes. But Word for Mac is significantly less than its Windows counterpart in price. Its worth the investment, IMO.

The 13" MBA is supremely portable.... I've owned mine for two years and it still kinda amazes me (and always impresses others it seems). Very light, very pleasant to use... but very sturdy feeling. I hate lifting and dragging around a Windows PC laptop anymore.... seems like a cement block to me in comparison. And I have to confess, I have stopped being very careful with my MBA... not a good thing... but you are right... the aluminum case is VERY durable and always looks good. This looks and feels like (and is) a really solid piece of hardware. I think you'll be pleased.

I moved to the 13" MBA (2011) 256 GB i5 processor from a PC in January 2011.

Although the spec of my desktop PC is still fairly impressive (details in footer below), I actually find that L4 performs better and faster on the humble MBA (with the i5). The passage guide, searches and note-taking all seem crisper and more responsive on the MBA.

In short, and in my experience, I would say that the i5 is more that sufficient for L4 use. I am actually glad that I did not pay out the extra for the i7.

If you can stretch to it, getting the i7 processor + 8GB of RAM should be seriously considered. For 2 x $100 you bump it up to a better machine.

Consider this point - it is impossible to upgrade the processor and/or RAM post purchase. For the price you are paying the extra for better processor and more RAM is incremental... and you can't do it later.

The MBA are great machines and likely you will have it for a long time, all the more reason to do the little extra investment and not regret that you didn't afterwards (I don't work for Apple!)
