Bit the bullet! Logos 5 is on my main laptop now! Pray for me!!!! (I still have Logos 4 running on an older desktop PC if I get in trouble [;)] )

Release Notes link seems tied to this thread.
How do I access the L5 Wiki?

Don't know what my problem is, but that also came back to this thread.
UPDATE: The problem seems to have be with Firefox. Tried the same link in Safari, and it worked correctly.

That's odd. Must be another one of those Mac things...my windows machine is working perfectly[;)]

Hmm. Not me yet. I'll probably install L5b5 as my main though.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

As a new MVP am I allowed to beta test Logos 5. I tried to go into the release notes to see what it had, and said I was denied access. So I wanted to find out. It would be cool.

I have the same question as Philana. Does it overwrite L4?
Mission: To serve God as He desires.

Philana & Lynden –
Logos will have to flip the switch for you (if they have not done so already). Logos 5 does overwrite L4. If you download it, remember not to post any screen shots! Even when you think things look the same, someone picks up on the difference. [:S]

I similarly received the same message and presume, therefore, that said switch has not been flipped.
I noticed I had been given access to the L5 Beta forums and emailed Nathan to doublecheck whether it was okay to go ahead and download the Beta. I will update this thread if I get a response.

Actually, just received a response from Nathan... The said switch has been flipped.
It actually feels a little like Christmas. [:D]

Did you also sign the agreement to commit suicide if you accidentally divulge the existence of L5 on the General Forum? [8-|]

Like the new interface and homepage.

Ha! I must have missed that in the small print.
[8-|] Ah, now I see it. [:D]
On a serious note, if I install L5 via second user account on the Mac, I presume that it will not overwrite L4 on the 1st (sorry for the newbie question, but it is the first time I have attempted this via the Mac [:$]).

Layout switching seems much faster.

True, but you will also need a second copy of all resources, indexes, etc. Chip (KS4J) has such an installation. Perhaps he can provide more information.
The current beta is very stable, and faster than L4 Mac. Notes are much improved, although there is still some lag in typing.

Correct. I use a second user account for beta testing. L5 happily resides here.

Thanks, Jack. On second thoughts, I will give it a whirl on my main user account. I have a backup of L4 on the PC should it come to it [^o)].
[Edit: And thank you, Mark.]

I've been running beta 4 as my primary since released. No problems so far. I even updated my net book to L5 which is my backup machine. I like to live on the edge.

When I close the software and relaunch it, it starts indexing the recently downloaded resources, then crashes, and then opens up. But there is nothing that says that Logos is indexing.
Do you use the same script for diagnostic loggging as in L4?

A search for Jesus on the ESV is fast with no lag. How do I know if it is finished indexing?

Hi Lynden,
I had a large download of updates to around 90 resources immediately after updating. It is now indexing (slowly). I have the blue indexing icon in the toolbar (I am presently at 17%). I have opened and closed L5 a couple of times during indexing (the fans were going crazy), but have not experienced any crashes.
Did you get the download of updates? Is this what is indexing, I wonder? I presume you are not seeing the indexing icon?
I am working on the Mac side btw.

Andy, after the last 3.8 ? download the large download of 678 MB is finally indexing. How do you enable diagnostic logging?
Mission: To serve God as He desires.
0 -
The download I was referring to was after the download and installation of L5. It was around 678MB and so I am assuming that it is the same download you have just received. Indexing is really slow. I am on 18% now (it has taken an hour to get here, but is crawling slowly).
I have not enable logging (I guess I should have done). I presume the terminal command or Chip (KS4Js) applet will work on the Mac side and ctrl on start up on the PC side?!?

Yes, I use it along with Logos Log
ScribeI keep logging enabled permanently. Don't know if it slows L5 down, as I have not run it without logging.
BTW: the gibberish is a feature of pasting the link from MS Word.

I've just discovered this myself [:)]. It has now finished indexing. I have had a quick mess around and am impressed by how much more responsive it feels (and I was more than satisfied with L4Mac). I will have a proper play tomorrow.
I really like the look of the UI and agree with you that the home page looks really good.

I now have Logos 5 as my main system and Logos 4 on the secondary account. I also have used Logos 4 beta all the time as my main working system, however, just once, I got a really bad situation with having the Logos presentation workshop at the conference and night before the new Beta just crashed Logos every time after start. Real fun, I tell you. All the night long I installed a stable version, just to find out in the morning that Bradley came with the solution for Beta [:(]. But, as we say: "the end is good, all is good". I again use Logos 5 Beta as my main system.

Checked most of the options on the homepage and it populates very quickly. I am done with L4..

Rebooted and started the software. Took unusually long to load a blank screen.

Topic guide is very fast.

you can add Biblical people, places and things, from exegetical guide, even though they are grouped under Bible facts. Is this by design?
Mission: To serve God as He desires.

Under L4, if you set up a custom passage guide, you could preview the text of the commentary using mouse over. Tried this on my custom guide, and it only shows the book information.

Using "Make a new guide template" at bottom of Guides menu, you can customize a TG by selecting "Topic" as below.
Does this help?

It does the same in 4.6a. If you are convinced that 4.6 previewed the text you should start a new thread.

Thanks, I will.
What are the new data sets mentioned when L5 was about to be announced? So far I have not come across any.

Ran a word list on the book of Mark, the results came back in about a minutes time. Switched from Grid to cards seemed to lockup, then it came back. Maybe a message should display saying that Logos is working rather than not responding. This way users will not be tempted to force close the program prematurely.

Still waiting on the conversion from Cards to grid.

Still waiting. Can someone with a faster machine, try and duplicate this to see what happens. It seems to be working but it is hard to say. The "not responding message is gone, just the hour glass. The cpu useage is at aourd 25-28 percent. Ram use is at about 50%.Lynden Williams said:Still waiting on the conversion from Cards to grid.

I have a very fast laptop, but both the generation of the Mark Word List and switching between Cards and Grid is instantaneous, so it's not that it fails it's just processing.
