Logos 4 has stopped working after updating

I just applied this update and now my Logos crashes on Windows 7. It
says "Logos 4 has stopped working". If I hold down control when loading
and select "offline", the program launches fine. Any attempt to sign in
causes this error. I have attached my log files. Any feedback helpful.

I have XP and ever since the newest update, mine has been freezing or crashing too. I haven't gotten any error messages though... I've included a couple of the files here too. I was hoping it would just correct itself, but I guess that's wishful thinking huh?

Is XP still supported?

I have the same problem as of today after update.

Bump. Have you tried rebooting the computer? What about holding down ctrl when starting the software, and opening up to a blank layout. Please enable diagnostic logging, http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging and upload the log file found in the My Documents folder.

You have a problem with the Handout database but somehow it reverted to v4.6. Try to update using this web link http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe
If it still crashes AND you actually don't have any Handouts rename the C:\Users\Keith\AppData\Local\Logos4\Documents\3tzmvh2c.scw\Documents\Handout\Handout.db to Handout.old and repeat the Setup.
NB. If you do have handouts upload the logos4.log just after the crash.

causes this error. I have attached my log files. It sounds like appSettings.config didn't get updated during the install. Delete C:\Users\STEVE\AppData\Local\Logos4\System\appSettings.config, then go to Control Panel | Programs and Features, find Logos Bible Software 4, right-click it, and select Repair.

The logs show errors when attempting to connect to Logos servers and timeouts, but no crash with 4.6a SR-1. If your internet connection is OK, it could be on Logos' end.
When does "freezing"occur? How often? A logos4.log would be useful.
Does Logos4 work when you try loading a blank layout (hold CTRL key down when you start Logos4).

Dave,
Thanks for your suggestion. I renamed the file appsettings.config (rather than delete it). I went into the programs section of control panel and selected Logos 4 and chose repair but it was unable to locate the windows installer file. Any other suggestions. Here are my log files after trying to rename the appsettings file.

Thank you very much Dave, That seems to have taken care of it for me. Started right up after following your instructions using the update web link, and nothing further was needed.
Sincerely Keith.

Try the Repair on logos4.msi in C:\Users\STEVE\AppData\Local\Logos4\Install\Installers\ (the file should have a Date Modified later than 26 October 14:00hrs to be 4.6a SR-1).

Thanks again Dave but unsuccessful. The logos4.msi file in that location is dated 03/11/2009.

Then the last place to look for the msi file is C:\Users\STEVE\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\onpwzqki.5l\UpdateManager\Installers.

Sorry Dave,
I should have provided more information in my last post. I have searched the entire computer for logos4.msi files and the only one I have is the one dated back to 2009. Is there somewhere I can download this or is someone able to upload it to this forum?

The Logos 4.6a SR-1 direct download link => https://s3.amazonaws.com/downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/4.61.0.3356/Logos4Setup.exe

Except that Setup will not download the msi if it determines you already have 4.6a SR-1! It means installing in another user account, but exiting as soon as setup is finished. You can use a Custom install to prevent a massive download, but that is getting complex, so it might be better to get it direct from Logos Support (who can get onto your computer).

Well, this morning mine has stopped as well. I have no clue as to what to look for. I hope technical will read this and maybe send another update to fix the update. I use this as for my studies of a morning, and as a pastor, I need all the support I can get.

Hi Walter - and welcome to the forums.
Sorry to hear you are having problems but we shouldn't assume it's due to the same cause as earlier in this thread.
I suggest you start a new thread and post diagnostic logs - information about basic troubleshooting including links to posting logs can be found at http://wiki.logos.com/Windows_Troubleshooting

I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, but had problems due to "Sandy".and no electricity for awhile. Anyway, apparently there was another update that logos downloaded and installed after the one that my problems started after, and for whatever reason, It's no longer crashing or freezing. So I assumed the newer upgrade fixed it, but don't know for sure. Doesn't matter to me though, as long as the problems fixed lol So thank you for your help and I again apologize for disappearing after my post.

I, too, am having the same issues with L4 not working after updating. I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or not...
I had a similar problem before here which was fixed with another update from Logos. The machine that I am having issues with is a computer that does not have access to the internet, and from the thread that I mentioned above, it was determined that the problem was that I was never logging onto the Logos website when starting L4.
This machine is running Win XP SP3. My error logs are attached.
If you need more info on the problem, please let me know. Thanks.

Tom,
(Not sure if you created another thread) As you may gather there is a lot of traffic about Logos 5 and your issue has been overlooked. I would suggest you get in touch with Logos Support as it is not immediately obvious to me what the fix might be.

Thanks for the reply, Dave. Bradley Grainger reponded here and knew that the problem was that this computer is an offline computer, but did not have and answer on how to fix it, as of yet. When I had this problem in the past, they fixed it with an updated installer. I realize they are probably overwhelmed with L5 right now, so I am taking that into consideration. I have not yet purchased L5 yet, but plan to soon. Unfortunately, this PC is running XP, so I hope to get this running so I can continue to run L4 on it. Thanks again.

Hi Tom,
Can you setup logging and record the crash, and posting the logs by using these instructions? www.logos.com/support/windows/L4/logging
0 -
Hi Tommy,
I got L4 running in a rather unorthodox way here. So, I won't be able to give you any other crash logs besides the ones that I posted earlier in this thread. (I also posted them in other thread that I mentioned earlier.) The problem was related to the fact that I did not have an internet connection and L4 could not sign me in. According to the instructions for diagnostic logging, I start L4 holding the CTRL key and sign in. I couldn't sign in because I was offline, so after I click sign in, the window pops back up and I have click Work Offline. It then crashes and the two logs that I post were the only logs created. Here they are zipped, if they can be of any help to you:
If I attempt an update on this computer again, I may run into the same problem and will post more logs here.
EDIT:
I didn't realize that Logos had stopped support of Windows XP. (Just found that out on another thread.) Had I known that, I would have not made a big deal out of this. I don't know if this is an XP issue or just that fact that I am offline on this computer. Either way, thanks for showing interest in the problem...

You still get (occasional) updates to L4 on Windows XP but the new Logos 5 will not install on XP. New resources will still work on L4

Also, it isn't that we dropped support for Windows XP. We will still update Logos 4 as needed. It is that new versions of our software, Logs 5 et. al., will not support Windows XP. Logoso 5 uses a version of .NET that does not support Windows XP.
