In my Bible study home, i often time have to read chunks of verses from many different areas of the bible.

It would be great to enter a series of passages to the search bar and logo returns those exact verses.

For example the command would be

Open Matthew 1:2-6; Hebrews 5:6-17, Romans 8:16

Hi Allen,

Apologies if I have misunderstood you, but I understand that you are asking for ways of 'book marking' specific passages of interest. Please correct me if this is not the case.

This is already possible. There are three ways that you can achieve something like this.

The first is via favourites.

Open up favourites (under tools). Then drag the tab at the top of the open window (in which your Bible is set to your verse of interest) into favourites.

The second is bookmarks. At the foot of the favourites window is an expandable list of bookmarks (1 through to 9). You can similarly drag your bible (open at the verse of interest) into one of these slots. The advantage with this approach is that you can use quick keys (cmd and 1 through to 9 on the Mac and, I think (from memory), ctrl and 1 through to 9 on the PC) to open the resource in question.

Thirdly, you can achieve this directly from the ribbon.

Drag your bible, again open to the verse of interest, directly onto your ribbon (next to the command bar at the top of the L4 window). This will then produce an icon which, when selected, will automatically open your bible to your verse of interest.

Because Logos 4 treats a Bible as a resource it can't open to three places at the same time from the command bar. You can open multiple copies of a resource (3 copies of the ESV for example). But they can't be opened from the command bar.

One thing you could do is open up a Passage List. You can type into the Passage List in the add passages command by typing Matthew 1:2-6; Hebrews 5:6-17; Romans 8:16 then it will retrieve those passages (you can even have it display more than one translation). So you can accomplish what you want, but you need to do it through the Passage List document instead of the command bar.

Having read Philana's response, I realise I may have misunderstood your query.

If you are wanting to be able to access multiple verse within the same resources with a single click, the passage list (as per Philana's suggestion) maybe the way to go.

Alternatively, you can bookmark a number of verses within the same resource via bookmarks (at the foot of the favourites tab). You can then drag the favourites tab to the ribbon (in order to create a short cut). This, however, would still require two clicks, the first to open the favourites tab (from the shortcut on the ribbon), the second to open the verse in question.

You would, however, as mentioned above, be able to activate the passage in question via the hotkey combination (cmd + 1 through to 9, or, on the PC, ctrl + 1 through to 9).

Wow. That was very quick response from many people. Thanks!

Passage List features seems to be a way to group together passages for use later on. Not exactly what i am looking for.I need logos to show me passages to read and consume in a quick fashion.

I guess the best way to visualize it is to show you. Bible gateway does what i am looking for but i rather use it inside of Logos.

Currently i need to spend time to click to different parts of the bible. If the passage list is large (like 15 passages), it makes it hard for me to be able to process the passages and make an answer for my homework assignments.

If you have a long list of references once you have them in the Passage List they can be collapsed to display just the references I think. Then you can click on each one and it will open your Bible there. The link you showed looked like a passage list. If your list is too long you could split it into two lists.

Firstly, Allen, thanks for the link to Bible Gateway. I was helpful to visualise what you are trying to achieve.

With this in mind, I have had a mess around and agree with Philana that the Passage List seems to provide this same functionality. It is possible, via the passage list, to type in a series of verses (separated by a semicolon) and then bring them up as a list (as per Bible Gateway).

You could even drag the Passage List to the ribbon to enable you to open it with a single click.

You can type the verses in the Passage List just like you did at Bible Gateway, and they can be displayed with the Bible text one passage after another just like your example from Bible Gateway.

Also remember this will be saved as a document, and unlike Bible Gateway can be accessed again without typing in the verses a second time. Since this is for homework, you can refer back. You could also create a master passage list. Use the heading Lesson 1 and import/add from Lesson 1 passage list, you can create a second heading Lesson 2 and import. Then you have individual lists for the homework, but can use a master list for tests.
