    Good one, George!

I don't have the answer for Logos, but I do believe that something like that would be beneficial for Logos and their customers.

    Blessings!

I have heard the loose nothing discussion and understand that regarding my current books that is true...

My question which I have asked for from Logo and never gotten answered is a reference of the features and data sets I currently own and how thy map to any upgrade. The lack of this mapping makes things confusing and the fact that I have asked for it and only received more marketing information makes me feel suspect...

Some of the features I already own and feel like they are being labeled as new... I just need accurate information not marketing material of what this mean and then I can make an informed decision... I am not disappointed in the product but am really disappointed on the communications surrounding this...

If anyone has these answered regarding features and datasets (in a non-marketing message matrix) please post..

To help answer this question relevantly are you able to advise what current L4 base package you own?

Can you be specific about which features you feel this about?

    Thanks, Graham

You don't loose any features or datasets either.

Logos has improved their upgrade and comparison web pages.  If hover mouse over a title, the pop-up now includes a count of resources plus how many of those resources are in your Logos library.

For example, the Theological Lexicon of the Old Testament (3 vols.) is included in Bronze and above is new to Logos 5 packages, has one resource file, and is available for purchase separately:

Your best bet is to upgrade as much as you can when you cross over.  Speaking of crossing over, they now have the barebones minimal crossgrade option available.  You are going to get the most bang for your buck by paying for the upgrade package now.  Hindsight is always 20/20 and they should have used different names for their new packages in 5.  The same level in 5 is completely different than in 4.  There are some resources that are the same but they dropped some from the packages and added others.  I ended up going from platinum to platinum.  I think it was worth the investment.  It was a matter of a bit over 700 to go from one to the other but now that I am here, I feel good about it.  All the data sets work at this level.  They do at gold, too, but it wasn't much more to get there from here.  Diamond is a really big jump and Portfolio is a giant leap.  If you want to max things out and think you can utilize those extra resources, go for it.  Personally, I have a ton of stuff I will probably not use as it is.  The current sale has a Tozer collection that is beckoning to me in a very convincing voice... buy me, buy me....  While it is part of the Diamond collection, they  want quite a few more dollars to go with that Tozer collection than the 200 it costs on sale.  :-)  Take the extra discount now while you still can and just go for it.  You get extra resources at a good savings for less than if you do it later down the road.

Dearie me. When will people learn some of the niceties (pecularities?) of English?

You LOSE features, you don't 'loose' them.

And while I'm at it, "IT'S" is an abbrev. for IT IS, or sometimes IT HAS. You DO NOT write "The computer has blown it's fuse," but "The computer has blown ITS fuse."

And you LIE on the bed, you don't LAY. You LAY an egg, or LAY you cards on the table, but you yourself would LIE on the table.

    Etc. Etc. Etc.

But we also need to recognise that some people on this forum are not working in their first language. English may be their second, third or fourth language, and it is important to respect that and accept that sometimes incorrect forms of words may be used.

Interesting that someone seeking to correct English usage in others should have typed this clause [:D]

The interesting thing with language, the more you understand it, the more you will understand that  niceties of today will become dropped by the users of the language tomorrow as it transforms.  It doesn't happen overnight, but it does happen, if this were not the case we'd all be using a language that would be totally different to what we actually use today.  Think of the change from old english to middle english to english we have it today as just one example or think about the romance languages that have branched off from Latin. If one truly understands what language is the one becomes less concerned about enforcing the niceties in a social forum, or in life in general, and more concerned about the content of the communication.

Maybe we should not rush the judgement just yet.  I am sure LOGOS will respond to its customers, it has always done so.  Just exercise some patience for now and give them time to work the "bugs" out.

    Hi All

As a Logos (and Libronix) customer since 2001, I decided today to upgrade to the Logos 5 Minimal Crossgrade. As a software developer and data mining expert, my personal faith goals are perhaps different from many.  Though I certainly share the love of the Word and the orthodox faith.  Throughout my life, I have been a supporter of leveraging technology for education in general and Bible study in particular. [H]

What I like most about this Logos 5 upgrade is the new ways to approach text searching.  Professionally, I work mostly with Microsoft software, and consult with clients in the United States and internationally on data mining and text mining issues; as a part-time university professor, I have also supervised several text mining (qualitative) dissertations.  There are a number of text mining software packages for different purposes, but Logos has brought a lot of text mining innovation to the Bible along with Christian literature and religious studies.  I find the improvements in the core engine and datasets to be sufficiently compelling to draw my attention both for personal growth and professional development.

Earlier this week, I worked through the Logos 4 API software demo with Visual Studio 2012.  As I understand the situation, the Logos 4 API will continue to be supported in version 5, even though there are no specific new features (developers are waiting to see what happens with HTML5 and JavaScript).  As a software professional, I find the API interesting as I intend to investigate how I can encourage Windows Logos users to draw maximum value from their investment.  The Minimal Crossgrade has a few more "datasets" than the Logos 5 Core Datasets, and again my interest is discovering new and better ways to approach text analysis.  I like the continuing visualizer innovation for both text and data mining since visualizers help people absorb large amounts of information more quickly.

I am encouraged simply by reading so many comments on this forum, and seeing the genuine enthusiasm in research and continuing education. [:)]
