Pixellated screen during and after installation

I recently got a new laptop, Windows 7 and 64 bit, and when I went to install Logos 4 the screen got a strange pixellated look to it. All of my windows were blacked out at the top, so I'm unable to see the minimize or close buttons, and the desktop icons all have a black frame around them. I called Logos and I chatted online with Microsoft. No one was able to help me fix this issue. Would love some feedback and a solution, if there's one out there! Thanks.

Hi Mandi - Welcome to the forums!
Care to post a screen shot? Also, did you download the latest engine?

The problem as described sounds very likely to be a video driver issue. (Logos 4/5 uses the WPF framework from Microsoft, which is based on the same DirectX technology games use; thus it can require a reasonably capable video card.)
Unfortunately, there's little we can change in Logos 4 to avoid this issue; it usually requires updating video drivers. Even more unfortunately, updating drivers for a laptop can be a difficult endeavour; the reference drivers from the chipset manufacturer often aren't supported and you have to use only the approved drivers from your laptop manufacturer.
Each computer is different, so it's hard to give specific instructions, but it usually goes something like this: go to the website of the manufacturer of the laptop, find the "Support" or "Download" section, search for downloads for your specific laptop model, then find and download the video drivers. They're usually delivered as a standalone program that you run to apply the update.

I don't guess I've downloaded the latest engine and I'm having trouble posting a screen shot. It won't let me paste it into this text box ...

Mandi, don't paste - go to this page in the Wiki and read the instructions at the bottom to upload an image

Here is a link for the PC version: this link

You need to "attach" it with the paperclip icon in the formatting pallet.
FYI – The info from Bradley above is from one of the lead developers. He knows MUCH more than I do. [;)]

Here is a screen shot of the paperclip icon:
After you click the icon, you will get a dialogue box which will allow you to navigate to your image:
Click "choose file", navigate to your image, and then click "insert."

Wow. Not sure how I missed that little paperclip. Thanks. Here's the screen shot I took earlier. Finally had to uninstall the program just to get the computer running properly again. Have tried reinstalling it several times, to no avail. Just updated a few things on the computer and am about to reinstall (again).

OK. Let us know how it goes.
Did you follow Bradley's advice above about your video drivers?

Its still making the screen look awful. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go as far as Bradley's advice! I'm not the most technilogically advanced person (ahem!), but I will see what I can do with his instructions....

Ugh. I've downloaded two separate drivers and neither one has solved the issue. It's late here, so I'm going to work on this some more tomorrow. Thank you everyone for your help.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.
This may be a problem caused by hardware acceleration. We can disable that, which may fix the problem. To do this open a command prompt (press the Windows key, then type "Command").
Select the following line of text and copy it to the clipboard:
reg add HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Avalon.Graphics /v DisableHWAcceleration /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
In the command prompt window, click the icon in the upper-left corner, then choose Edit > Paste. After the text pastes in, press Enter.
It should print "The operation completed successfully."
Does this fix the pixellated graphics?

I followed the instructions above (using the command prompt), but it didn't change anything. The Logos program is crystal clear, but the rest of my computer is awful looking. Not sure what's going on....

Actually, I take that back. Logos is a little fuzzy too. Not nearly as bad as the desktop, etc., but not crystal clear. Sorry.

I'm sorry for so many replies, but it works now! I shut it down and came back this morning to find everything back to normal. I probably should have rebooted it last night, but it didn't occur to me then. Anyway, thanks so much for your help Bradley (and everyone else). Just in time to finish up my final project for class.
