131 Things Every Christian Should Know

There are about 50 resources that are showing up on on of my Macs in the Library, but not the other. The resources are there in the Resources folder, but don't show up in the Logos 4 library.

An example is 131 Things Every Christian Should Know (file name 131CHRSTNSKNW.logos4)

Anyone know why these 50 resources would be in the resources folder of both my machines, but only appear in the library on one of them? This has been the case since Alpha 2....

I wish that were so. Performed a search for "131 Christians" with no result (as I would expect, since it doesn't appear in my library, only in the "resources" folder of my drive).

This is a shot in the dark (because you would likely remember performing this) but in your "Program Settings" (scroll to the bottom) there is a place to "hidden resources" so that while the file is in your /logos4 folder it is not showing up in your library. If you haven't already please check to see if this resource (and the other 50 or so) are placed there. Personally, I don't think it is there but just trying to cover our bases.

Unfortunately, the Program Settings have not been implemented in the Mac version of Logos 4 yet.

Does anyone from Logos even look at these messages? I just spoke to a missionary friend overseas who is really frustrated with the lack of support from Logos. He has resources that are locked (and shouldn't be) and many emails, postings, etc. haven't seen any response. I appreciate the users who have tried to respond to this question, but it's really a question for a Logos engineer. I don't expect a fix, just a response.

Hi Mark,

Logos does read the forums... However, there are SO MANY posts that they often (like we do) scan the subject... If a real problem (like yours) gets posted under the subject "Reply to: Re: 131 Things Every Christian Should Know", how would they know?

Instead, start a new thread (new post) with "Help Logos" in the subject. They WILL read that one. And if someone is having a problem & can't still can't get it resolved then Bob has consistently offered in the forums to help. Just email bob@logos.com.

Not sure why your resources don't match.

My resources match between my Logos 4 for Windows and my Logos 4 for Mac installs.

The title in question appears in both libraries for me.

I would imagine that the lack of response is due to the fact that these problems are with Alpha software.

It is highly unusual for a software company to respond to these type of problems at this stage of development.

The reason for this is that at this stage of development, only the developers themselves are really able to troubleshoot anything that their time is better invested in development rather than support.

The support people who normally respond to these type of issues probably won't have adequate information to troubleshoot until later in the Beta stage or even after the final release.

Just curious . . . are the other 49 resources that are missing also related to Christian History magazine or are they from a variety of resources?

I have also complained about a lack of response from Logos to contacts from these forums, but in this case, perhaps we could/should cut them some slack. [:)] You posted the original message in this thread after close of business Wednesday of a long holiday weekend. It is now Saturday of the same weekend. I wouldn't expect to hear from Logos before Monday afternoon. Time does seem to drag when you are waiting for an important response. [8-|]

If this were the first time I'd posted a question and never received a response from Logos, I'd agree. However, this happens a LOT, and not just for me. I'd also point out that MUCH smaller Bible software companies seem to be able to answer questions on their forums regardless of the time of year. I'd also add that this is only a holiday in the US. If Logos expects to be providing resources outside the borders of the US, they really should think twice about their support strategies.

Hi, Mark... I'm very sorry about the delay. Your message was at 6 pm on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, one of our very few holidays. This year (for the first time ever) we've been open on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, but with less staff. I understand that this isn't an international holiday, but we're still not big enough to staff 24x7 every day of the year, and this holiday in particular involves more travel and time away from work.

Your question is particularly difficult to answer, since the Mac product isn't finished, and the support staff doesn't even know everything that is/isn't working. Most Mac issues require a developer, and they're taking the holiday. (Ironically, smaller companies handle this easier -- when we were very small, everyone knew everything about the product. It was just a smaller product! Now there's too much going on to have everyone know everything.)

Unfortunately I don't know the answer either; the most likely scenario is that the books were copied into the directory after the "discovery' of the resources happened. (The "Preparing your library" message.) Can you provide more detail?

How did the resources get into the Resource directory? Did they get downloaded from the Internet on both systems the same way? Or copied as part of the DVD installation? Or did you manually copy them from one installation to the other?

Can you confirm that the same login is used on both machines?

I will email a Mac developer, as well; many of them check email all weekend and hopefully someone can provide some other clues.

BTW, there are presently 46,000 messages in the forums, most of which are since Nov 2. I'm trying to keep up on reading all of them, but am a bit behind, with 750 threads with unread messages. Travel to ETS/SBL and Thanksgiving have cut into my forums times. But I'm on it!

I had the exact same installation of Logos 3 on both machines (an iMac and a MacBook). I upgraded from the Original Languages Logos 3 to Original Languages of Logos 4. I then upgraded to Logos 4 Scholars. Both machines have the same login and downloaded the Scholars' collection files. However, only some of the Scholar's collection files made it to the MacBook, whereas the iMac received all the upgrade files in the resources folder. There were about 50 resources that never made it to the MacBook resources folder, so I copied them manually from the iMac resource folder to the MacBook resource folder. That was when Alpha 3 was the current version. I now have Alpha 5, and though the 50 additional resources are still in the MacBook resource folder, they still don't appear in my Library.

The same login is being used on both machines.

I understand that this is an alpha version, and don't expect an answer. I just wanted to know that someone from Logos was reading the postings. I would even be fine knowing that nobody from Logos was reading the forum posts; I would then simply rely on answers from users.

I'm sorry that you're having trouble with your library. Here's something to try that will force all your resources to be rediscovered:

Open Library/Application Support/Logos4 under your user home directory. Under Logos4 your will see a Data folder. Inside of that you will see a folder with several random letters and numbers. Inside that folder you will see a ResourceManager folder. Inside ResourceManager, you have a file named "ResourceManager.db". If you delete this file and restart the app, Logos 4 will try to rediscover all your resources. Be sure to only delete this file. Once you restart, you may see a message like "Downloading Resources... (null)". After a few minutes, it should change to "Preparing your library...". Once L4 is done preparing your library, the app will start and you should have all your resources available in your library.

Tom, I've had the same issue as Mark in regard to some resources not showing up between Windows and Mac installations. My Windows install shows 1121 items in my library, but the Mac install show 1098.

I ran the steps you suggest above, but it did not fix my problem. I haven't taken the time to determine what's showing up and what is not.

Thanks for the help. I deleted the ResourceManager.db file on both machines. It solved my problem. I now have the same number of resources showing up on both my Macs.

Due to the Mac product being in a pre-release state, we haven't finished writing all the code to load and display all the resource types that the Windows product currently supports. For example, you probably have resources for Biblical people, places and things, as well as timelines, which show up in your Windows library which will not yet show up on the Mac. As soon as we get the resource drivers for loading and displaying these resources written for Mac, you'll have them in your Library.

As far as Customer Service goes, I think Logos did a good job of resolving the issue.

I do not work for Logos, no relation, but small companies who work so hard to make everyone happy deserve a kudos for putting out so much effort.

Rick, I think Mark's issue is different in that the # of resources was different mac to mac. Yours is different windows to mac. I think the issue is that some resources have not yet been prepared for the mac that are working on the windows. At least that is my impression at this time and I could be wrong.
