Upgrade Questions

Since I'm not a tech person I wanted to know if I could even run L5.

Do you need Windows 8 to run L5?

I have L4 on two computers. My work computer is XP and my home runs Windows 7. If I can run L5, then how does that work? I'm assuming that L5 does not run on XP. Will future resources operate on both?

As I am considering upgrading these are my first concerns. If you have any other advice on how to make the upgrade process work smoothly that would be much appreciated.

The logos site seems to be down for the moment, but if it ran L4, it will probably run L5. Wait for the site to come back up and look at the system requirements before you order... But my slow laptop (i3 first gen, with 2gb of ram) runs it just fine.

You can continue to run L4 on XP and L5 on Windows 7. Much of the beta testing was originally on two accounts - one L4 and one L5. They synchronize just fine.

Logos 5 requires .Net 4.5 which doesn't run on XP - hence Bob's previous warning that they were dropping XP support.

Thats a good point MJ - 5 will not run on my desktop because it is only a release candidate for 8, not the full version. Logos looks for a different version number on .net 4.5 than comes installed, and the installer for L5 tries to install a version of 4.5 that will not install on 8 release candidate.

Windows XP cannot upgrade to Logos 5 because Microsoft does not support .NET Framework 4.5 for Windows XP.

Logos 5 has a number of new features that needs new content, which is not usable in Logos 4: e.g. Bible Sense Lexicon.

Personally have Libronix 3.0g, Logos 4.6a, and Logos 5.0 installed on Windows 7 by using several user accounts. Thankful for option to use Logos 5.0 and Libronix 3.0g at the same time in one user account.

That's correct: the Release Preview version of Windows 8 is not supported by Logos 5. (Although, you can still run Logos 4, since it doesn't use .NET 4.5.)

To install Logos 5 on Windows 8, you need to be running the final version (6.2.9200 or later).

No - resources which you purchase in your account will be made available in both L4 and L5 environments (assuming there is nothing "L5-specific" to the resource). If there is something L5-specific then it won't be deployed to your L4 system

No. In your situation - where your laptop runs XP - you don't need separate accounts.

Sync will work in the same way as between L4 machines. During the beta testing period I was running L5 and 4.6a on separate user accounts on the same machine both linked back to the same Logos account and everything synced well between them.
