my initial findings
I tried to do a quick comparison between some of the resources found in some of the V4 Packages and those found in the new V5 packages. This may not be accurate. But if you were wondering what resources were taken out of the V5 packages the following information will help start that process. Others might be able to confirm or deny my initial findings.

Maybe longer. I'm assuming if we already own these, we won't be affected; but if I was a new purchaser, this would certainly be a problem for me.

This is 100% correct.
I agree that the loss of Pillar and NIGTC to the new packages is disappointing. I am personally pleased with some of the new additions to the higher level packages (Jonathan Edwards Works, Calvin's Commentaries, Lloyd Jones' Ephesians, etc.) which were on my wish list.

Correct. You never lose resources when buying more resources, which is what "upgrading" to a different collection really means. You're just buying the difference between what you own and what's in the new bundle.

The loss of the PNTC and the NIGTC is a tough one. Those are two excellent sets that are hard to replace in terms of overall content.
The good news is is that if you are already a Logos 4 user you do not lose them, but they remain yours always. That means that with Logos 5, you not only have the PNTC and the NIGTC, you now also get Black New Testament Commentaries (which is an excellent series, containing commentaries written by Barrett, Dunn, Lincoln, et al.), Lenski, and others, depending how high you go in your upgrade. We have also added a lot of more technical monographs from Continuum, which are excellent resources for more detailed and focused study.
So, rest assured that if you upgrade from L4 to L5 you are not losing the PNTC and NIGTC, but in fact you are gaining a lot more as well.

I can't speak for the others, but I upgrade at the beginning of the year and had been looking forward to moving from L4 Silver to L4 Platinum specifically for these two resources.
Feeling a little bit deflated seeing that they were removed. Alford and Expositor's (both public domain) are not suitable replacements for NIGCNT from my perspective (often a flawed perspective [:)]). I know nothing about the Black commentaries, but if Lenski is a contributor they are older and not what I was going for in Pillar.
I will cowboy up and deal with this later when the I decide to upgrade. [H]

Agreed. I was just last week talking my wife into an upgrade to Platinum just to get Pillar. I have had Gold since L3 so I already have NIGTC and it was a huge influence on my original purchase (along with NAC). I have nearly all Pillar volumes in print, but only a few of the Blacks volumes where they are outstanding. Blacks, although good, tends to have more liberal or critical authors...the series is simply not as consistent as Pillar, so the loss is significant.
I had decided to upgrade at the beginning of the year as well since we have a few expenses (new baby born yesterday) and now I'm disappointed that I will have to purchase Pillar separately from an L5 upgrade. I appreciate that Logos seems to have tried to replace Pillar with Blacks, but I think there would have been some better commentary series choices to replace Pillar. I would have perhaps preferred NIVAC NT...I still haven't replaced my Pradis resources and that would have been a greater incentive for me. I can't tell, but it seems BDAG is also removed from Platinum.

give logos sales a call! Yesterday they were able to upgrade my L4 Silver to L4 Platinum for a great price so that I will have Pillar, UBS Handbooks and NIGTC regardless of which L5 base package I buy. (I will likely only do the $100 minimal cross grade when it comes available in the next few weeks).
