What's significant about Bible Sense Lexicon?

I haven't purchased Logos 5 yet. Still comparing packages/features. How does Bible Sense Lexicon differentiate from Exegetical Guide and Bible Word Study? It appears I find the same type of language info from the latter two, so wondering what is so beneficial about Bible Sense Lexicon. Thanks

Bible Sense Lexicon differentiate

The Bible Sense Lexicon is part of an ongoing project I hope as it currently only has nouns. http://wordnet.princeton.edu/ will give you a sense of its capabilities. What is especially interesting with the Logos version is that it deals with multiple languages. My quick description is that a word net is like studying a butterfly in nature; a lexicon/dictionary is like studying a butterfly pinned in a display box.

BWS focuses on word details: it makes it easy to get to existing lexicons, see where a word is found in the Biblical text, what its roots are, how it's translated, and grammatical usage.

EG is designed more for detailed source-language exegesis of a specific passage.

BSL is different from both. It combines a lexicon with annotation of the text, and is based on original analysis of the Biblical vocabulary. It's purposes are to:

organize by meaning, rather than by word. For example, λόγος has more than 15 distinct meanings in our analysis. Its most common meaning, "message (communication): a communication that is most often spoken, but can come through other means", is expressed by 8 different words (the rest of them Hebrew).
provide a "sense concordance" of all the places where this meaning is expressed. This is dramatically different from a word-based concordance: you'd have to know just which words to put together, and then cull out all the cases where the words were used in a different sense. I expect this feature to ship in a December update.
explore the space of meanings in the biblical vocabulary, regardless of which language. Where appropriate (like "message (communication)", the same sense carries across Hebrew, Greek, and English.

BSL exists to make it possible to interact with the text at the level of meaning. My belief is that, for non-scholars (most of us), what we're really after with "word study" is not words at all, but their contextual meanings.

As MJ notes, it currently only covers nouns (but covers them comprehensively). We expect to complete verb coverage near the beginning of next year.

Is the Sense Lexicon going to be available separately? When I hold my mouse over it in the Package comparison chart it implies it is for about £12 but I cant find it by searching for it as a product...

Actually, no. That is a mistake and will be corrected according to Kent Hendricks of Logos. (Sorry I can't find the thread where he stated that.) There will be a bundle or minimal crossgrade option.

Is there a way to access this information from a context menu? I right-click a word in my tagged text, check both the English word and Greek lemma and don't see a way to access BSL directly. I know I can go to Tools, etc, but it would be helpful to access it contextually to see how BSL classifies this word in this passage, etc.

Sounds like it is basically Swanson and Louw-Nida on steroids integrated into the software.

Great idea! Really useful to have this tool bring Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic semantic domains together in one place.

Two questions:

1. Is the LXX included in this tool?

2. Do we still have Louw-Nida numbers in the L5 Interlinear info?

Chris there is no way to do this right now. During the last phase of beta testing we were told that it was planned. So it should be available via the right click menu at some point.
