Questions about Upgrade

I currently have Logos 4 Bible Study Library (KF). Of the Logos 5 packages, which is the closest package to what I currently use?

Starter is the closest. http://www.logos.com/comparison Make sure you look at the upgrade package to determine how much you will pay. http://www.logos.com/upgrade

If my upgrade to Starter doesn't include some of the books I have purchased, will I lose those that I have purchased?

This is where the naming of the new packages has caused some confusion. The resources you own now you will keep all of them. Your job is to look over the new packages and see which one offers the most new resources you would like at a price you can afford. The cost of the new package you choose will be customized for you based on the resources you already own. You will receive credit for every resource you currently own that is offered in the new package so you will never pay for any resource twice. The cost of the new package is customized for you based on your current library. Hope this helps.

Hi Keith,
You categorically and absolutely will not lose any of your current resources. You will gain any additional resources which you do not currently own which have been included within the revamped package.

Hello Everyone
I would welcome help with regard to making an upgrade to Logos 5. Is it possible to simply retain all of your existing books and upgrade to the better, faster software that is Logos 5? If not, I presume you must upgrade to one of the packages available. How do you avoid duplication of resources? When Logos looks at your library, does it take account of books which you have pre-ordered but have not yet received? For example, I have preordered the Baker Academic Biblical Studies Bundle.
Finally, I waited for three years for the Sermon Addin feature on Logos 4 which I purchased literally a few weeks before Logos 3 finished. It never appeared. Will it be available on Logos 5? Will I have to wait another 3 years for it to appear?
I really would appreciate some good advice.
Thank you.

Hi George,

Yes - and it even will be for free! Unfortunately, the free engine is not yet available, but will be in a couple of weeks.

You won't have duplication of resources as you always keep what you have. Moreover, the upgrade price calculator takes into account what you currently own - you only pay for the difference.

I don't know about your specific bundle, but the base packages contain some few "licence included, files will follow" items. If you're oin prebub for these, you can cancel the prepub after your upgrade. I heard that Logos intends to contact the users where this might bne an issue.

Sermon Addin feature came with latest version of 4.6 (including creation of an automated index) and was carried over to L5 unchanged, as far as I could see.

Hope this helps - come back if there's more you need to know.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. There is so much included in the upgrades it is hard to know what is good value and what isn't!!
I am so pleased that sermon addin is available.
Is it possible to read a brief summary of the changes which Logos 5 has made to Logos 4?
Thank you.

The best would probably be http://www.logos.com/features
You may as well go through the Release Notes of the various instances of L5: http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_5_Release_Notes, starting with 5.0

Since this was introduced in 4.6a, you may not find something in the L5 release notes, but the official word from Logos here: http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4.6a
Basically it uses the PB compiler, since most preachers (or sermon collectors) use Word anyway, and adds the indexes when you put a special table into the Word document. Remeber to compile the various sermon docx files into one PB resource to get a meaningful index!

The Minimum Crossgrade is currently under development and will be available soon—See the second thread in the General Forum for a definitive description by the BOSS.

You will only download—and be charged for—resources you do not currently own.
George Ruddell said:does it take account of books which you have pre-ordered but have not yet received?
Sorry, do not know the answer to that. If you purchase a set containing something on order, I would cancel the other.

L5 Contains a new Sermon Starter Guide, wich first appears in the Bronze package.

Jack,
I understood George was asking about a successor to the former L3 Sermon Addin, a feature that helps pastors and others managing sermons preached (or read/listened to) with respect to e.g. date, scripture, topics, thus allowing re-use of material, following long-term trends/series as well as avoiding duplication. This has been implemented in 4.6a, using the PB feature.
As far as I could see regarding the new L5 Sermon Starter Guide, this is something different and rather aims at creating the sermons in the firstplace, i.e. pulling ideas from the library if one sits there with a blank sheet of paper, knowing next sunday's sermon is about 3rd Thessalonians 28, or about "money". Seems nice (or not - I seem to remember some discussions coming up when Mark Driscoll claimed to fast-produce sermons with Logos [and he didn't have L5 back then] ). Some info on this new feature is here: http://www.logos.com/sermon-starter-guide
Just to avoid confusion about two helpful features for pastors.
