Question regarding setup of Microsoft Office Word 2007

In WORD 2007, I would like to set the style of the footnotes [to NO SPACES] and use a different font size from what I use in the main section of the document. Are either of these possible?

Also, I did attempt some changes using their template, but found that my latest documents were NOT being filed in the DOCUMENTS folder, but in the sequestered TEMPLATES folder.
