Can you in Logos 4 for Mac make or insert your own cross reference to be added to a bible passage or attach to a word in the text?
Welcome to the Logos forums, Larry!
[Note that I'm answering as a Windows user not Mac, but I think all of what I say here applies equally to the Mac platform]
You can add them in Notes. Just insert a Scripture reference into a note attached to a Bible passage, and it will become a link.
Or you can create your own Personal Book of type "Bible Cross-Reference" which should be able to work just like any other Logos edition Bible Cross-Reference resource such as The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge.
I have been planning to test this out myself but haven't gotten around to doing more that a simple test document that does have two functional cross references in it. Here's the syntax I figured out after playing around with it for some time and waiting for Logos to fix some bugs that were making it not work. This is just a very tiny excerpt from the NIV Study Bible's cross-references.
-------
{{~Genesis 49 }}
33.[[Ge49:33]] k S [[Ge 25:8]]; [[Ac 7:15]]
{{~Genesis 50 }}
Thisis a test
My intent was to maybe try to find time to enter them all, but I'm hoping someday Logos will make the NIV Study Bible with all its cross-references available to spare me the effort. I don't have time to do it anyway.
Hi Larry
Just one comment on Rosie's response.
At the moment, the Mac version of Logos does not automatically create a link when typing a Bible reference in a note.
I am sure a Mac user will explain how you do achieve this.

Larry – First, welcome to the forums!
I'm not sure I understand your question, so I'm not sure if my friends have answered it! [:)] If we have misunderstood, could you ask again and explain what you want to do?
Sounds like the PC version creates a link for a personal cross reference, however, the MAC version does not, at least not yet!To clarify what I am wanting to do…..Select a passage or verse.
Create a note - then within the note add a cross reference that links with a bible.
When you click on the note, the note window pops up showing the note and also the cross reference that you created.
if you hover over it, it displays the verse or if you can click on it, it take you to the chapter and verse for that reference.Thanks for the follow-up.Larry Robards
Larry – Just to clarify… It is true that the Mac version does not automatically create this link… but you can manually add it. If you are having difficulties with that, please let us know.
FYI – Logos is working on creating a new notes engine for a future release. This feature should be fixed when that happens. No timeline has been given.
Can someone help me to be able to manually add a cross reference?
Not sure how this is done!
Larry Robards
Sure: In the first screen shot, you see a note (without the auto hyperlink). In the second screen shot, you can see that I selected the text, clicked the "link:" button, entered the text and pressed enter. In the last screen shot, you can see the link in the note. [:)]
Thanks, it works on my desktop - the ref turns from black text to a blue indicating it is linked, however, when I put in an additional cross ref in the same note field after a semi-colon and follow the procedure it also turns blue and when I hover over either it displays the verse. However, on my iPad 3 after it updates, I am only able to view the first ref. The second is there but in black text instead of the blue and not linked.
Got any ideas on this....
Thanks again, Larry
I've not found a way to create a cross-reference in the truest sense. I'd like the ability to link two passages together e.g. Highlight Gen 1:1 and link it to John 3:16. The note method above creates a sort of "one way" link (I think). Meaning if I look at Gen 1:1, I'll find the ref to John 3:16, but if I look at John 3:16, I don't see a link back to Gen 1:1.
I'd love to be able to link the two passages together so that no matter what passage I look at, I see the other one.
Welcome to the forums Bryan!

I'm not quite sure how you envision that working… but the best you can do now is to create two notes. One in Genesis 1:1 and another in John 3:16.
EDIT: OK. I thought about how it might be done. If you could create an unattached note and then tag it to multiple references (thereby attaching it)… Notes can't be tagged currently, however.
I suggest you go vote for one or both of the following:
Thanks for the tip fgh! I knew about the first one (but had not read it that carefully), but didn't know about the second one. [:)]
I didn't see this thread before I posted, but I may have found a work-around - that is if you run Logos on BOTH a Mac AND a PC. Explanation at the link below. I hope it works for others as it seems to be working for me.
