I was wondering if anyone out there was looking to sell their NIV 84. if so, I would be an interested buyer.
Michael,
I don't know if your post violates guidelines or not. But we sure need a place where such a post would be appropriate.
I do have a question about this. If your NIV 84 was discounted as part of a package, I don't think you can give it away or sell it.. Right? But if you bought it separately, I believe that you can.
What if you have bought it both ways? Could you give away the NIV you bought separately and keep the NIV that you bought as part of a package? That is assuming that you received no special discount for already having the NIV. For example, you own the NIV, but buy from another source a Logos cd that also contains the NIV.
Of course, I understand that in an upgrade, like L5, we are not charged for the NIV that we already own, so we do not acquire an additional license through the upgrade.
I have no interest in selling any resources, but I would be interested in giving some away to someone who would use them. Especially if I have duplicate licenses of the resources. This is a complicated issue. Of course, there is also the $20 fee for a change of license.
If there are two people interested in selling their NIV84, I'm interested in buying one as well.

Don't know if this is legal or possible (it is probably both), but remember that Logos will charge a fee to transfer a license from one person to another.
Also, for those who bought the NIV84 as part of a bundle, I'm not sure whether Logos can legally sell it (bundled packages are negotiated with sellers and contain restrictions on how the packages may be resold). But someone who bought the NIV84 as a stand alone product is very probably able to sell it, and I'm fairly certain Logos can assist in the transaction.

I don't have answers to either of your questions. [:S] I am aware of the $20 license transfer fee, and that is not an issue.
I bought my Logos 4 a couple of months after they discontinued the NIV 84, and I really don't care for the 2011 revision. Reading through Ruth yesterday, I read Ruth 4:13 and I really didnt care for the rendering. I made up my mind to try to find the NIV 84.
Just so nobody gets the wrong idea, I strongly prefer the 2011 translation (including its rendering of Ruth 4:13), but I really want the 1984 edition for comparison purposes. It's still the most popular translation ever sold, so it seems ridiculous not to have it in Logos.

Really? The NIV84 seems the most wooden of any number of translations I just read through. Plus, if I were reading the text in the presence of children, I think the NIV11 would be preferable to other texts. [;)]

Select the one from Northwestern Publishing House
This gives you the NIV plus a couple other works for a very small price. CHP no longer has any copies left, i am not sure how much longer people will find copies of this, but it will arrive on CDROM… call in Logos with the unlock number and the item should be able to be added to your account.

Dan, I tried that. Unfortunately it's out of stock, they just don't tell you that until you go to check out after creating an account.
If anyone finds a retailer that still has the Concordia Self Study Bible CD-Rom in stock, please let us know!
I apologize, I got hits on a Australian book retailer but I can not be sure it is actually there either. Good luck in finding it. It has been the cheapest way to locate the NIV since Logos was forced to stop carrying it. I personally like the new 2011 version overall, but realize how distressing it is to be unable to get something you want for your Library. Good luck on finding it, I am sorry I have been less than helpful.

Can anyone tell me if the Logos edition keeps the NIV readings in the commentary, I only have the Accordance version and the NIV text has been removed from the commentary likely to give better flow for reading. But if it is there that is a pricey way to get it, although if i remember back to my print edition i had years ago, John and Acts were actually the 1978 edition and not the 1984 edition. Anyway I doubt most people would be wanting to spend $130 to get access to the text in a less than ideal comparison model.

Really ? I would prefer to read the NIV84 version to a child. No questions would come up about "what does made lover to her" mean?. Surprised to read NIrV also uses this phrase. I guess each to their own. Unfortunate Logos is not allowed to make NIV84 available to their customers whatever your text preference might be.

“THEY” refuse to sell the 1984 version.
Experiment: Get your denomination to order 100,000 new pew Bibles and DEMAND the 1984 version – Check to be paid on the day of delivery. [not pay in 90 days – on delivery]
Then see if they don’t restart the press for the 1984 version.
After they do that [Money drives lots of decisions] get a group of 100,000 Bible students to request that they allow the sale of e-versions of the 1984 versions
Post here how it went [They want to sell the 2011 version so that every one that bought a 1984 will now have to buy a new copy of the 2011 - $money$]
My fix ?- change to the ESV or revert to the KJV [that would 'fix' "THEM"]
Well that is not entirely true. I was at one website that said publishers who had previously published study Bibles with the NIV, would be allowed to continue reprinting it as long as they wanted. Now Obviously Zondervan being the primary publisher has decided not to keep any of the old ones. Hard to say if any exceptions will be made software wise, I mean the NEW Interpreter's Bible will obviously have the old NIV printed in as it is what is in the printed volumes. The electronic edition always came with NIV as a separate module, when Logos gets the rights to it will they be including the NIV 1984 or not as a separate module??? Of course they also had a module on the NAB that with apocrypha only (critical translation notes only, which I have never seen in any printed version). Money can talk but if you asked to purchase 100,000 1978 NIVs i don't think you would be able to get them.

If anyone is interested in selling their reverse interlinear for NIV 84, I would be an interested buyer.
My kids have thousands of verses of NIV84 memorized, and do not want to switch versions because in future Bible Bee contests and Bible Quizzing, they may run across verses they already know. They want to be able to study the Greek words as they memorize the verses.
My understanding is that:
- it was briefly available
- it will never be offered again (because the publisher is moving on)
- it can be transferred for a $20 fee (which I am happy to pay)
- it is all entirely legal and proper
I have an NIV 84 license from way back, libronix 1.1, so just need the interlinear for it now.

Searching Logos for Version 1984 => http://www.logos.com/products/search?q=Version+1984&start=0&sort=rel&pageSize=60 includes a result with NIV 1984 for $ 82.95 => http://www.logos.com/product/9202/seventh-day-adventist-bible-commentary-expanded-edition
Noticed NIV 84 text is embedded/surrounded in several commentary series.
Keep Smiling [:)]
Welcome to the forums.
Unfortunately your understanding is partly incorrect/incomplete:
I thought it was still included in the Logos 4 Minimal Crossgrade, but it seems not. Have you asked a sales rep? While it's true they're no longer allowed to sell the NIV 84 itself, the RI is their own work, so it seems to me they should still be able to sell that, as long as they don't sell the NIV 84 text with it. But maybe their contract with the publisher says otherwise.
You should not put your undisguised e-mail on the internet. Spam bots will pick it up and start filling your inbox with things you don't want. More > Edit allows you to modify your post within 10 hours or so.
They want to be able to study the Greek words as they memorize the verses.
While the English translations may look different, the Greek text behind them will normally be the same, so a layout like the one below ought to work fairly well (click on it to make it larger).
Or they can see the Greek lemma by either hovering on or right-clicking the English word in the NIV 84, and open the lexicon by either double- or right-clicking on it.
fgh,
the RI licence was included in the L4 Minimal Crossgrade at the beginning of L3/L4 switchover, but the MC is versioned as the base backages are, and thus when NIV 84 was switched to NIV 2011 the RI licence ws switched as well. There was a thread in 2011 where some of us who own NIV 84 as a standalone resource or through another package plus the MC wondered about the RI and Logos clarified that the licence is for NIV 2011 and they are not allowed to give the '84 RI to anyone.
Thus it seems, to get it now one needs to have an old MC transferred (or an old L3 package which contained the RI).
Your proposed layout should work, though.
Mick
Welcome [:D]
English is not Greek. Thankful for visual filter highlighting that shows Greek verbal intensity in English and Greek:
Philippians 4:4-9 has 7 verbs written in the imperative mood: 6 positive commands and 1 negative.

Or you can purchase the NIV 1984 Bundle from Logos for $82.95. I just got my copy along with the NIV 2011 + other resources and it's great to have both.
By the way, the only problem with the Bundle is that the NIV 1984 in it doesn't have Reverse Interlinear other than that, the text is there.
Blessings!

Oops! But yeah, in that case, I, too, would be interested in the RI for both 1984 and 2011. Hopefully Logos can make them available soon.

The 2011 is in all the regular base packages from Starter and up, plus the L4 Minimal Crossgrade. Though it will take a few more weeks before it downloads.

For clarification: The NIV11 is no longer included with base packages. It was included with L4 ones.

Correct if you're talking about the Bible itself, but he was asking about the RI, which is included, as far as I can see.
Dan, can I ask why this works? Was this essentially a Logos product in the first place, or is it simply because you have bought a digital license for NIV 84 and Logos honors that? There is other software floating around with this version on the NIV on it.
Thanks!

I think you are out-of-luck unless you can find a copy of this CD unused through some place like ebay. I have a search on ebay for that item and it has turned up nothing over the past two months. I searched the Internet extensively to see if a copy was available to no avail. It is no longer available at the place Dan listed.
It was a Logos supported product, but that particular resource collection is quite old. With the sources of older copies essentially dried up, unless Biblica changes its mind the NIV84 is essentially no longer available in Logos format.
Logos used to license their software to various publishers to create their own books in their format. However Logos stopped this process with the stated reason that some of the content producers were not producing quality content (lots of typos) and because of their desire to integrate things across platforms via a Logos paid for cloud. So there are a few CD sources out there for older resources, but not for newer stuff.
With the new NIV, the copyright holders are not allowing new copies of the old NIV. This means that Logos can't sell it - in fact, the only ones that CAN be sold are ones made before this change in policy.
So, if you find an "old" unused CD with a license for the NIV, you can still get the NIV. One of these is the Concordia Self Study Bible CD. Concordia itself is sold out and cannot make any more. But evidently there are places that still have copies available.

When you find the NIV 84 on a software CD-ROM and acquire a licence for it, Logos will honor this and you'll have it. The issue only is that this becomes harder day by day since there was only a limited number of CD-ROMs of each of the limited number of products. I got mine from the old SESB package.
OK...not to labor the issue, but what if I bought this:

Would that work?

Don't think so. Look for an old green LLS (Logos 2) or red LDLS (Libronix) logo.

No. Sorry for being unclear. I think when we write about the NIV (or any other resource) on CD-ROM that gives you a licence for Logos, we implicitly or explicitly mean a CD-ROM with resources in a Logos format (from 1.0 onward). You may be lucky with e.g. "Libronix" (i.e. Logos 3).
I believe the question as to why a CD version is still valid way to buy 1984 has been fully answered, but a better question is what is going on with the NIV… I just noticed yesterday at Wordsearch that they still sell the NIV as well as NIV2011. Logos is not lying to us when they tell us they are no longer being allowed to sell it, neither is Accordance… But why is it that crossway (parent of quick verse/worsdsearch), allowed to still sell it?
But why is it that crossway (parent of quick verse/worsdsearch), allowed to still sell it?
I think it's LifeWay instead of Crossway - and maybe the purchasing power of several million Southern Baptists? Or the lawyers of the licence holders shot for the big cats first?
LifeWay
You are right, typed wrong one.. Possiblly they purchased a large number of licences i suppose...
