Free engine, followed by Crossgrade?

As has been said, hopefully the engine and the Crossgrade are coming out in the next few weeks. My question is this: Since it looks at my Logos 4 to check the price, do I need to keep Logos 4 to get the Crossgrade? Said another way: Would I be able to upgrade to Logos 5 via the free engine, and then later get the Crossgrade? Or do I forfeit the chance of getting the Crossgrade if I get the free engine? Hopefully that made sense.

Most possibly yes - it was this way with the L4 engine and Crosscrade.
I don't understand your rationale, though.

From what Logos employees have said, the "dynamic pricing" aspects of the Minimal Crossgrade will look on features and datasets you already have, but this doesn't require L4:
- L5 will install over L4. This means, everything that was in L4 is in L5 and could as easily pulled from there
- It has been stated that people upgrading to L5 Starter right now will be able to add datasets and features with the Minimal Crossgrade
- The dynamic pricing algorithm will not look into your installation, but into Logos' licence database to determine what you already have.

It's highly unlikely. The upgrade calculator doesn't look at 'your Logos 4' to check the price. It looks at what resources you have licensed. What version of Logos you're running when your crossgrade will almost certainly be irrelevant. What will matter is what licences you have purchased.

That's right.
But I stopped using Libronix for a while, just in case. Plus Dana Valerie (wrong spelling?) is so busy breaking up collections, I seriously need MONEY.

Money? What's that? I've almost forgotten (Seriously, I don't carry cash. Everything is plastic).

Mainly what I want to do is to upgrade to Logos 5 via the engine so that I can take advantage of the UI and speed improvements, and then later when I have the money purchase the Crossgrade so I can get the extra features Logos 5 offers. But if for some reason I would forfeit the Crossgrade option by downloading the engine (as Bob Pritchett explained that the cost of the Crossgrade would depend on if you have Logos 2, 3, or 4) then I would wait and continue to use the slower Logos 4.

According to this post you'll be able to do the crossgrade even if you are already running L5.
