I am interested in upgrading to Logos 5.  I currently have the silver edition.  I don't want to upgrade to the gold edition because of the price.  The issue is, I am very interested in getting the Bible Sense Lexicon but it only comes with the gold or higher.  My question is, can I purchase the silver upgrade and add on the Bible Sense Lexicon.  Thx for your help.

    Steve, welcome to the forums.

Your best bet is to hold off until you see the 'Crossgrade' which Logos is about to offer. It likely has what you're wanting but at a significantly cheaper price. This week or next.

The 'Crossgrade' essentially gives you Logos5 and a choice of feature groups that you're wanting.  They'll also offer the Logos5 engine for free.

Hi Steve - and welcome to the forums.

After buying the Silver upgrade you will be able to add in the Bible Sense Lexicon by purchasing one of the minimal cross grade packages which Logos will be making available, maybe even this week.

You won't be able to purchase the BSL on its own but your purchase of the Silver package will be taken into account when calculating the cost of the minimal cross grade.

This crossgrade is discussed on various threads in the forum but I'm sorry I can't include a link to one (due to the browser I am using at the moment)

Are you 100%... 110%... sure that after purchasing the Silver upgrade one will be able to purchase the minimal gross-grade to get ALL the new Data Sets and the top end Features...

    1) Bible Sense Lexicon, 2) Bible Word Study: Senses & 3) Bible Word Study: Septuagint Translation

...that rely on the Data Sets.

Do you have that specific scenario above confirmed (in writing) by Logos? Currently I am not spending anything — because I don't see a clear and unambiguous statement from Logos to that effect, even Logos customer service can't/won't confirm this to me.

I would be more than happy to pay for the Data Sets + Features, even more than $100. I think it is time that Logos consider that the Logos Bible Study platform is no longer comprised of just application + resources but:

    1. Application, the Mac/Win program that runs on computer — and I would not mind paying for (major version) upgrades to that.
    2. Lets call it 'Value Added Intelligence' i.e. the new Data Sets — I definitely would not mind paying for them. It's logical — they are a unique, value add, functionality that runs on top of the application & which reference library resources. They take human resource to develop, the more money (people resource) Logos has the better the feature will become, the more people will buy Logos, the more money (resources) Logos will have, the better the Data Sets will get, the better the product, the more people will buy.... you get the idea. Also Logos doesn't have to pay 3rd parties (unlike books) for whatever they sell of Data Sets.
    3. Books, library resources — once people have purchased books Logos will never get any further revenue from a person for those books they own, it is very unlikely that people will (need to) 'upgrade' resources. But Logos will still have to support the application that display those books.

If Logos relies primarily on point 3 for revenue they will always be 'chasing their tail'. They will always be pressured to get people to buy more books (more collections) at lower and lower price points (to attract people who already have many books) resulting in lower and lower margins (they have to pay the publishers) while building up a user base who will increase their support workload.

Logos — don't lock your USP of Data Sets into high-end book collection sets.

Hi Graham. I've read that posting by Phil — based on that I wrote to customer service (and even included that link in my email) but they knew nothing of the post or the company position behind it. They are taking my money, Phil isn't.

I just a) wish Logos would get this settled and b) they would consider their revenue model as I mentioned in my previous post.
