Logos 5 sermon file add in

My greatest disappointment with Logos 4 - and now Logos 5 - is that the Sermon File add in has not been provided.
It was simply the best resource for a pastor to compile sermons & sermon illustrations. I haven't used PBB but it does not appear to have the same functionality.
Some of the new Logos 5 features look terrific - but I looked in vain for my favourite, long awaited & often promised feature! Should I give up completely now or is it still on some back burner that's rapidly running out of gas?
With regards to Logos 5, I do wish I could simply upgrade to the new programme with all the new features without having to buy books I don't want. - i .e. to get all the new features I have to go for GOLD and, in the process, buy books which, under normal circumstances, I would never buy.
I understand that Logos must make a profit to survive, but why not offer a GOLD upgrade with no extra books at an economically viable cost?
Nevertheless, I do appreciate the way that Logos labours over providing us with the very best of software & helpful ongoing support.

The Logos 4.6a Release Candidate thread => http://community.logos.com/forums/t/57253.aspx includes personal book examples with sermon file metadata, which can be used in Logos 4.6a and Logos 5.

It "has" but as many might not have seen it until Logos 4 .6a which came out almost at the same time as L5 it might as well be "invisible."
It uses the PBB tool.
To make a book of sermons you need to paste into your Word docx. file at "syntax" table.
There is information in the wiki. on how to do this.
On the page I will link you to is that table:
http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4.6a_RC_1
Sermon File Type Sermon Passages Gen 1:1; John 3:16 Topics Creation; Love Tags Examples; Testing Date October 23, 2000 Speakers John; Mary Venues
Change the info to suit your purposes.
There is further info there in the Wiki and in soem of the release notes.
[This forum software is messing up the table-disregard its appearance here.]
Post back if this is note nough information.
To create a "book" of sermons, each Word doc must have this table embedded--one table per sermon docx

Can these user compiled resources be used in the mobile versions of Logos?

Not yet - Logos has stated they will provide this in a future release but we have no timescales.
It requires proper synchronising of personal books between all of their platforms (desktop and mobile) which requires new infrastructure and capability to be put in place. So it is a fair amount of work but would be very useful!

Hi Steve
Thanks for helpful reply re Sermon FIle using PBB - it worked immediately & much, much better than old Logos 3.0 version.
I've been transported to the third heaven! - well maybe the second.

I am using my iPad and L5 on a Mac. I "print" my sermon as a pdf from within Logos and use Goodreader on my iPad. A work around until the PBB or Notes function is functional for that task. I am enjoying the Sermon File creation tool.

It's great to hear you say so. I technically own the old "sermon file addin" but never used it. Some users are very upset with the new implementation, but it seems ok to me. [:)]

Hi Steve
Sermonfile working well & have imported a few sermons already - quite fast.
Do you know if the sermon file created on one computer can be transported to another computer - I am creating on home computer but would like to use the files at the church when I am there.
Thanks

At the moment the .docx files need to be compiled separately on each computer. The metadata describing the book is synchronised between your computers (so it appears in your library) but the documents themselves are not. This can lead to a bit of confusion!
Logos are working on providing the ability to synchronise the documents as well but it is a lot of work and infrastructure and we don't have a date as to when it will be available

Brian - I personally follow Graham's method, which is the Logos supported method. I use dropbox to sync the .docx files, so it is easy for me to compile on different computers… however, there is another way if you are interested… but someone else will have to help you with it.
It IS possible to dig around and find the compiled book file, manually copy and move it to the new computer. I have never done so, and frankly don't know where to look because I don't want to do it that way… If you are interested, let us know and someone will chime in before too long. [:)]

http://community.logos.com/forums/t/55924.aspx is a thread which discusses how some people have done this.

if you still have Libronix and use the sermon add in function and then import to L5 it syncs them to all computers. A lot quicker if you can use and don't mind using Libronix for this.

Thanks alabama24. You are quick to help. I am still trying to bring it all together in a single workflow. I am believing that it is going to happen.

PBB does not give us what we had in Logos 3's Sermon File Add in, no matter how many times the folks at Logos say so. It does not integrate new sermons with our existing sermon database created in Logos 3. It does not add our sermons to the online sermon collection, as Logos 3 does. Moreover, it is clunky to use, not nearly as easy as the Sermon File Add In. Logos, please give us what we paid for years ago and you have take away with Logos 4 et seq.
I was continuing to use Logos 3 solely for the purpose of mainting my sermon database. Now I have upgraded my computer and discover that the Sermon File Add In, for which I paid $50, is no longer available as download. I am not aware of being given any notice, other than statements that Logos 3 would no longer be supported, that would have prompted me to download the files before you took them away.
You, Logos, have us over a barrel. We have thousands of dollars in your system and can't reasonably abandon you becasue of such mistreatment of your customers, but I would if I could. You have not kept faith with us.

You should be able to install Sermon File for LDLS3 by running the following Libronix Update script: http://www.logos.com/media/update/LogosAddinsAutoUpdate.lbxupd

That worked. Thanks. For what it's worth, however, please pass it up the line that I remain a dissatisfied customer for Logos' failure to implement this feature in Logos 4-5 as it was in Logos 3. PBB just doesn't do it. It requires too much effort and too much skill in database building and still doesn't integrate with my Logos 3 book of sermons or with my sermons online at Logos.

Your link did work to reinstall the Sermon File Add In and all functions work except that the "compile" button is grayed out and I cannot actually save the data I enter into the form. Any suggestions?

I haven't seen this problem reported before. What OS are you running? What is the installed version of Internet Explorer?
