BHS/WIVU vs. Andersen-Forbes Analyzed Text

Hey friends.

I was wondering why the BHS yields the morphology data but not its definition when hovering over a word? It shows it's lemma in Hebrew without it's meaning. On the other hand, Andersen-Forbes Analyzed Text does give the definition right in the popup. On the Greek side of the texts, NA28 and others also produce the definition right in the popup.

I know that the info panel, if open, will give the lemma's denotation from my top lexicon and this is what I am doing out of necessity when using the BHS. But I was hoping not to have to keep it open in my layout, nor to default to Andersen-Forbes.

I am not yet proficient enough in Hebrew to do without the definitions entirely, so I ether am forced to work with the Andersen-Forbes Analyzed Text for convenience of hovering/popups, or keep the "info" pane open and use the BHS.

Can anyone tell me if this is permanent for the BHS or will definitions be added to the tagging later on?

I would recommend that you use the linking to open your BDB or HALOT to look over the various senses of the word and how it is used in various contexts. If you simply want the program to give you a gloss which you can then plug in to some translation you are explicitly or implicitly doing, I would recommend that you find a translation which you like and stick to it since you are really gaining little or nothing from the original language.

George, thanks for the suggestion. I agree, there is great benefit to the approach you mentioned. And I do use BDB and HALOT often. I would disagree, however, on the counsel to abandon the original languages for an English translation if one uses the popups. Surely not every occurrence of an unknown word requires a study on the full range of connotations in a lexicon. And it is for those occasions that a hovered pop-up would be really helpful and convenient.

Well, just in practical terms, BHS probably isn't going to get a lot of attention as Logos moves with Lexham etc and the german group (apparently) tries to find funding?

But George IS correct. We have Japanese TV and the bulk of drama is of course in Japanese. But a few have english sub-titles. I've found that if I express too much joy with the sub-titled ones, my spouse's impression of my Japanese drops precipitously. Safer to look like I'm enjoying the Japanese ones.

Simply some Hebrew Bibles are tagged with this and other aren't. Both the Westminster and WIVU morph schemes aren't tagged with glosses. They are unlikely to be updated with glosses as Logos is moving more towards it's in-house morphologies.
