iPhone keyboard does not appear after update to 3.1.1

I accidentally updated to 3.1.1. (I had intended to wait a few days) and now touching a text field ( for searching and library) no longer brings up a keyboard. Select, Select All, and Paste do appear as expected.

Also, the icons at the top of my iphone 4S screen for library, search, news, and settings are half covered by the iPhone status info, such as signal strength 3G vs Wi-Fi, time, and battery %.

Have missed something simple or is this behavior a sign of corruption and I should delete and reinstall app?

I do not see this behavior. Is this the only app that has this problem. Sometime iOS won't bring up the keyboard appropriately if you have an alternate text entry device attached (like a bluetooth keyboard)

Scott - I have seen this behavior before. It is generally fixed by either: 1) a full shut down of app & device and/or 2) deleting and reinstalling the app. NOTE: you will lose your downloaded resources when you delete the app.

Guys - A reboot did it. I'm new to iPhones and a quick consult to the User's Guide revealed that I actually had not performed a "full shut down" of the device. I appreciate not having to reinstall the app and downloaded resources. Thanks!
