Since Logos 5.0 updated to SR-4 (5.0.0.1835) I am experiencing lots of not responding issues on Windows 7.
When is it not responding? What are you doing?
Also upload logos.log after a session with this happening.
I did the full cross-grade to 5 (I had platinum 4) I have had a few of these "stalls" where I never had any before. I have a really fast windows 8 box with SSD & 8 gigs/RAM, so I know its not the PC.
I was wondering if I can do a complete CLEAN INSTALL of L5? I know it will need to re-download everything...but want to try this. Can I do this without losing anything? And what would be the best way to get it done?
Thanks

I have not tried to install Logos 5 onto another computer using the unofficial Quick Installation onto multiple computers at the Logos Wiki site. If someone has tried, please comment on the results. I have tried the following process below on Windows 7.
Do you have a backup copy of your Logos 4 installation (i.e. the entire Logos4 folder)? If you have a backup of your Logos4 folder that was made just prior to the installation of Logos 5, you can try the following:
1. Make a backup of Logos 5 folder and then uninstall Logos 5 from your computer.
2. Follow Method #2 from the Quick Installation onto multiple computers. Install Logos 4.6a SR-2, see the forum thread for the download file.
3. When you launch Logos 4.6a, it should download a 72 MB file of Logos 5. It will install L5 and start it automatically. It should not install MS .NET 4.5 because you should already have it on your computer.
4. L5 will download the new resources and datasets and re-index the new stuff.
The best method is to use Method #2: backup your Logos 5 folder, remove L5, install L5, transfer specified folders (from your backup) into your new Logos 5 location, and start L5. I have not tried this for L5. It works great for L4, however.
David
Edit: If for whatever reason the process I outlined above will not work (I've not tried it on Windows 8, only on Windows 7), you can try Method #2 using your backup of Logos 5.
Hey thanks...unfortunately I DID NOT do a backup...I had the resources before when I used them to fix my Windows 8 initial problem...but I deleted them...maybe someone else will chime in that can verify if a complete uninstall/re-install can be done
Perhaps you can clarify what you are asking. Now of course you can uninstall and re-install Logos anytime you want. However, you will need to download EVERY resource you own and index them - this will take a few hours I'm guessing. My response above is to answer the question: Is there a quick method to re-install Logos without downloading and indexing my resources? The answer is yes for Logos 4.x. I have not tried Method #2 for Logos 5.
What I just did today is to uninstall Logos 5 from my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit computer. Re-installed Logos 4.6a SR-2, moved three folders from my Logos 4.6a backup drive to Logos 4.6a on my computer (per Method #2); then let Logos 4.6a install Logos 5 and all the new resources and datasets that come with Logos 5 (I have L5 Bronze + Min Crossgrade). It worked like a charm. It took less than 2 hours for the downloads and indexing. So far so good.

If you have Logos 5 installed and working then I would suggest you:-
This a Clean install and one I have used successfully for L5.
Thanks Dave!
Question: When I Install L5, this will reinstall all of my resources, layouts, etc. from LOGOS servers?
what I mean is can I uninstall L4...and then reinstall L5, AND REINSTALL ALL MY resources from their servers...just in case my problem is related to MY installed resources (hope that makes sense) This is what I would like to do...I KNOW it will take a day
If so...then I would/can delete the L4 install folder?

If you want a totally clean install then uninstall Logos 5 as I stated and install from the L5 upgrade/crossgrade link in Orders. However, I don't think the problem is related to resources, so I would still recommend Method 3.
Thanks for the help guys!
Oops...one more question...Do I HAVE to first install L4 BEFORE installing L5 again?
The L5 upgrade link on your Orders page will do a clean install of L5 or update L4/L5 to the latest L5.
Thanks Dave...starting now
Ok...I have another question
I am DOING full reinstall. I noticed that my download (occurring now) says 8.23 gigs...but my "backup resources" folder, is 10 gigs...is LOGOS going to miss some of my stuff?? Any ideas why this would be less? Thanks
EDIT-Also, I lost my Passage Guide setup, and most of my "older" layouts in the scroll section (not the ones I had created).
Seems quicker, and no hangs yet. But if anyone can tell me why the difference in size by over a gig...I would appreciate it!

a) The index isn't downloaded, but built in place. (And the new index is likely to be somewhat smaller than the old, especially if you've hidden a lot of resources since the last complete rebuild.)
b) PB's don't sync. They will have to be recompiled.
c) There may be two downloads. (I know there is when you install L5 on top of L4. I don't know about a clean install.)
It doesn't include PB's, and it may be compressed. But are you actually missing any resources (the number in Library?
You lost your customised Passage Guide? Hopefully it can be easily recreated.
You installed clean so you only get the Layouts that you named/created.
What is "PBs"? And heck...I have never counted my resources, so not sure at this point if they are all there or not!...all of my specialty, separately purchased ones appear to be there though, so that is good.
Still seems weird to pick up 1.7 extra gigs of space...if I did not loose anything... then that alone, may be worth the clean install which I could no for sure with a "restore to my old backup" then back again to clean install!
Yes, I did loose my passage guide, but my Exegetical one is fine...which is also weird!? My passage guide was replaced with "placeholder" template...whatever that is?
Layouts is fine, as I have those created, and they came back...I just wanted to go "way" back to see if I could easily recreate my passage guide!
Overall, my problem is solved with speed hiccups, and the whole thing, including syncing only took a few hours, so not bad at all.
I really appreciate the quick assistance on this board...you guys are GREAT!
More questions to come I am sure!
What is "PBs"?
Personal Books that you compile from your own MS Word source files with Tools | Personal Books.
.I have never counted my resources,
Look at the number in the Library Find box.
My passage guide was replaced with "placeholder" template...whatever that is?
You can delete that.
Again...BIG THANKS Dave!
FYI...the "placeholder template" looks really close to my passage guide" like it retained some of it, that is why I was curious...
Me again!
L5 is using 30 & 50% of my CPU and 40-50% of memory (and climbing...was up to 1.5 gigs before I restated) I thought maybe it was syncing...but no notification if it is.
Has this been mentioned? Is there a memory leak somewhere?
Also...do you know if logos has a 64 bit version so I can use all me ram?
EDIT* Now it just stopped...so maybe, it was syncing in the background? I don't know, but things are normal (for now) again about 1% CPU and 200mb memory.
Is it indexing? If not, shut down Logos then restart the computer and Logos.
There is no 64 bit version.
