Bible Facts

I was looking for something fairly simple, i.e, a map of the Israelite's exodus route. I typed all kinds of things in the search bar and it wouldn't accept that, but used, instead: Israelites (the Exodus). What came up was the Timeline for the Exodus. I couldn't find any maps. Then I opened the Bible and turned to the passage in Exodus (13:18) where the exodus out of Egypt is described, and also turned on the Explorer. In the process I found under "MEDIA" a Bible Fact reference -- "Route of the Exodus." When I first clicked on it it took me to a timeline of the event -- and wouldn't go the map. I accidentally got the map to open up but I'm not even sure how I did it now and can't re-create it. I can tell the map is underneath the timeline because it briefly appeared before the timeline was superimposed over it, but there's no way to close the timeline and see it. Several questions arise: Why won't the Bible Facts search recognize "Route of the Exodus" when you type that in? And why won't it take you to the map when you do find the link, circuitously, through the Explorer? Am I missing something basic here? It seems like there must be something wrong with the search feature in Bible Facts and also something that causes the timeline to dominate. Anyone have any clues?

I just tried that also and was disappointed that Bible Facts refused to pop up a map of the exodus. The Bible Facts, at least for now, can only find place names (e.g., Red Sea or Mt. Sinai) and does not seem to have any travels programmed into it (I tried Paul's travels and Abraham's travels, and got nothing). Hopefully, they'll add more to Bible Facts as time goes on.

The easiest way that I could find the route of the exodus was a search of my entire library for an image of the exodus. I typed in (without quotes) "#image exodus" and several maps came up. Hope that helps a bit.

Thank you. There is a map of the Exodus Route because I found it. But it is not programmed in the search feature. I found it through Explorer but still couldn't access it through the link. I think there is a bug in it because it shows up instantaneously when you click the link (from the Explorer feature) and then it's immediately covered by the Timeline entry. And there's no way to get rid of the Timeline entry so you can see the map under it. As I said, I did find the route indirectly under Bible Facts by typing Egypt then it came up with Egypt (nation) and it is the 3rd map from the left at the bottom of the page. Try "Red Sea"...you should get a "Route of the Exodus" Biblical Place map like this:

This was from L4, but the resource should still be there in L5. It was a Logos map, as I recall.

Yes, it is the 8th map from the left at the bottom when you type Red Sea; It is the 3rd from the left when you type in Egypt. But when you type in the very name itself "Route of the Exodus" it doesn't go there at all, even though there is a Bible Facts Icon for that designation that I found indirectly through the Explorer feature. I am telling you there is a bug in this system in this. Has to be. This is supposed to make finding things easy, not hide and seek.

The problem is that the Book of Exodus does not call the exodus by that name, neither is it called that anywhere else in the Bible. That means there is no Biblical Thing (and certainly not a place) called the exodus, so it is not tagged and will not come up as such in Biblical Facts.

The Red Sea, Egypt, Mount Sinai are all places mentioned in the Bible therefore come up as Biblical Places.

Remember that you have in your Library a number of books of maps (that's partly where Biblical Places draws its maps from). In this case it might be better to look for the route of the Exodus in some of your books of maps.

If you put your maps into a collection you can search for a map of the Exodus:

If you put the word NEAR between map and Exodus it will cut down the list a bit. I prefer this looser search even though it turns up a few that are not correct. You could expand the search to include atlases, Bible dictionaries, and Study Bibles for more hits, or just do it on your entire library.

The Biblical Facts tool has maps but it is not a tool designed to help you find maps. It is designed to help you find Biblical Places, and uses maps for that reason.

I appreciate this and it is helpful. I am not trying to be argumentative but I do want to repeat that the Route of the Exodus did appear to be tagged as a Bible fact because I found it under the Explorer feature with a Bible fact icon identifying it. Whether I'm correct about what that means, your information is very helpful and I appreciate it.

I find an occurrence under Media for Exodus 14:12. But if you hover over it it shows the link is to Egypt (nation) and when you click on it it takes you to the Bible Facts entry on Egypt. It pulls up a map entitled 'Route of the Exodus' but that is not what the Bible Facts entry is about. By trying to type Exodus in the Bible Facts box you learn it doesn't work. So Explorer can find maps (nice) but you cannot search for maps in Bible Facts. It isn't the purpose of that tool.

I know once you see a map there it would be nice to easily relocate it. Right now we can't. Not sure if that is ever planned, but it would be a possible extension of the tool.

As I said in my initial post, I found it using the Explorer tool and Exodus 13-18 and, yes, it is under Media. The first entry says Route of the Exodus and it has a Bible Facts Icon to the left side of it. Yes, you are correct, about it taking you to Egypt when you hover of it. I am surprised that a feature that purports to include Bible Persons, Places and Things doesn't include a direct connection to maps -- but that's probably due to my superficial understanding. I would imagine I'm not the only moron who would jump to such a conclusion, but I might well be. :-) Thanks for your help -- again.
