Customized Passage Guides vs. Sermon Starter Guides

There are four template types for customizing guides.

1. Bible Reference

2. Bible Word

3. Sermon Theme

4. Topic

I've been trying to figure out which one to use primary, and I noticed that there were only two differences (that I can tell) from the Bible Reference and the Sermon Theme Templates.

Sermon Theme adds sections called PASSAGES and PREACHER RESOURCES, which works if you type in a sermon theme/topic instead of a bible reference. Preacher Resources appears to be pretty close to the same thing as "Illustrations."

Why would one use a Customized Passage Guide instead of a Customized Sermon Guide or vise versa? They're almost able to be used basically the same. What are advantages / disadvantages of each?

Once it's customized, it doesn't much matter which guide you started from. I almost always just use a customized guide which I've set to include results from several collections and I've removed several sections I never use.

There is overlap between Guides that use bible references and you can customise all of them according to your interests. There is no need to have a "primary" or general purpose Guide. I'm not interested in Sermons so I have a customised Passage Guide (and 2x Exegetical Guides). If you are interested in a guide customise it and use them at different times as it will save adding sections or opening sections manually.

Guides that use Words, like Topic and BWS serve distinct purposes. I customise both.

One significant difference between a passage guide and a sermon starter guide is the search terms that you can start with.

In a passage guide you start with a Bible Passage. You can open a guide to the passage Matthew 2:1-12. But you can't open a passage guide to the word/topic "Magi."

In a topic guide you start with a Word/Topic/Theme. You can open it to "Magi" but you cannot open it to the passage Matthew 2:1-12.

BUT in a Sermon Starter Guide you can EITHER start with a passage OR start with a topic. That makes it especially helpful for those preachers who sometimes preach topical sermons and sometimes preach passage-based sermons.
