Good deal on Learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software which I've considered a couple of times. But I think the budget can only afford the package upgrade I was planning on.
Kind of thought there might be more items for Black Friday. Probably just as well there aren't as I don't need the extra temptations.
It is very good to see the AYBD on offer... I don't recall seeing this discounted before.
I like the bonus "John Owen" collection, it has been in my wish list for a while now... decisions decisions.
So glad and thankful for what I already have, and that I won't be tempted by Logos this Friday. Some good prices to be had.
Yay the black dictionaries are there! They were on my wish list.
Also is the Learn to use Greek and Hebrew useful for the layperson?
The black dictionaries are the OT ones, not the larger set of NT ones. Still very helpful and many of us are waiting for the OT set to be completed.
Yeah I just got the NT Black ones, so the 2 OT ones will be new to me. And I will get the other 2 OT ones also.
You expressed my feelings, exactly.
I agree. It is tempting.
Can someone who has this resource give me an evaluation of it? How often do you use it? Do you find you refer to it a lot of does it sit among your resources as something that you seldom use?

I got it a while back and it's my go-to dictionary for the topics it covers. Between that and the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church, I've got just about everything I need.
I do find myself going to Eerdmans Dictionary of the Bible a little more often just because the articles are shorter, but if I want an in-depth treatment it's Anchor Yale all the way.
AYBD was my very first Logos purchase, and is still one of my most-used resources, and certainly my most-used Bible dictionary. I used the print version extensively as a student, and couldn't believe it when I discovered, years later, that I could have the whole thing on my computer for $250. I highly recommend it.
Great series!
I also enjoy the Commentary on the NT use of the OT
Amen. Very thankful this holiday season with my L5 upgrade. I'd have to admit that a few on the list are tempting! But I'm thankful for the discernment that I have no place making such purchases because I can't afford them. Ha
I'm very keen on the AYBD but can't see anywhere where I can have a look inside.
Can someone please point me to a link or even post an extract of an Intro to Mark's and John's Gospel as a sample.
Ehh??? The AYBD has been on sale numerous times in the last two years. It's one of the most frequently discounted resources out there. In fact, you could have bought it $55 cheaper ($154.95) just a few days ago: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/58483/416248.aspx#416248.
Unfortunately, pretty much everything on that Black Friday page is just the same old same old that goes on sale 2-3 times a year. Nothing even remotely interesting for someone like me. And most of the prices seem to be higher than they usually are when these items are discounted, and also don't seem to fit the rules of the game, as I understood them.
Plus, if someone from Logos reads this: something's seriously wrong with the programming of that page. As I move my cursor around, the items flicker and move around all over the place, like they were performing some weird dance. If I want to see dancing on the screen, I liked the 'spirit-filled bananas' in the other thread a lot more.[:P] (I'm using Safari on Mac.)
Ha! I fear I have lost serious points for my lack of observation! [:$]
I bought AYBD a couple of years back... At full price [:S]... I hadn't noticed it being discounted before (honestly!), but obviously wasn't paying enough attention [:P].
Thanks, FGH.
Also, I agree that Safari is behaving strangely, but intermittently so. To be honest with you, the entire website (Logos.com) and the forums have been a little glitchy with Safari since the launch of L5 and the refresh. Alabama and a couple of others have raised this in a separate thread.
I already own the AYBD and would highly recommend it as one of the best dictionaries Logos has available.
I've been wanting the Commentary of the NT use of the OT for a while now and might consider purchasing. Could someone shine some light on the IVP OT Bundle? I'm especially interested if it offers more information on OT compared to the AYBD. I'd love to here from someone who owns both already and how they are utilizing both at the same time.
Thanks! And Happy Thanksgiving. Let's rejoice and be thankful in our Savior. We have so much to be continually thankful for.
I bought AYBD a couple of years back...
Well, I'm glad you didn't miss out on the 'Customize' price (which was definitely the best I've seen!), but
At full price ...
[:'(][:'(][:'(]!
(I payed $189.95 two Christmases ago. My sales rep gave me an extra -$10 on the '12 Days' price.)

As have I. In several threads, actually. But it's getting better. The 'dots' now show up where they should.

Both entries are roughly 15 pages, give or take, in their entirety.

You can still get it for $154 if you are upgrading, and I suspect that if you have upgraded to L5 and you were to contact Logos sales you would possible get it for that price...possibly?
There's a possible possibility thee somewhere...[:)]
Thanks Robert. That is most helpful.
It was removed from the 'Customize' page some days ago, or do you see something different?
yes, I just added it to my basket, it appeared in the customise window in the 'What other customers bought' section...I think its a 'rolling' segment of the page...
It's under the RECOMMENDATIONS section on the left of your basket.
Of course you need to have an Upgrade in your basket to get this price. This low price is fixed to Upgrades.
If you missed this and have already upgraded, then a call to Logos sales may...possibly...do the trick?
the 'What other customers bought' section
the RECOMMENDATIONS section
Can't see any such sections on my page.
I think its a 'rolling' segment of the page...
Already looked under 'Dictionaries'. And I'm not the only one who's noticed it's gone.
HOWEVER, I tried adding it from the Black Friday page, and it turned up in the cart with the lower price.[:)] Doesn't matter to me, since I've already got it, but it might be good for others to know. $55 pays for a huge chunk of the Crossgrade.[:)]
I think that if you've already upgraded, the calculator will recognize that and give the lower price automatically. I believe I've read others report that. If not, a call will almost certainly "do the trick".
Agreed, I'm also not tempted. Basically, I either have it already or I'm not very interested. I was hoping that by participating in the Like-a-thon I would get something on the list that would be more interesting, but I guess not.

Have not had that problem with Logos sites. However, I do have similar problems with my go-to news website, and often shift to FireFox to go there.

I agree. When I looked at the top twelve I thought 'really?', especially as some of the titles had been on sale already in the last 18 months such as ICC. I was hoping for something we hadn't seen on discount such as Anchor Bible (Commentary) or Interpretation.
I've been wanting the Commentary of the NT use of the OT for a while now and might consider purchasing. Could someone shine some light on the IVP OT Bundle? I'm especially interested if it offers more information on OT compared to the AYBD
I highly recommend the Commentary of the NT Use of the OT. It is a specialized work unlike any other because of its focus.
The IVP OT Bundle are the 1st 2 OT volumes of the IVP "Black" Dictionary series. Many have the NT volumes from the IVP Essentials Collections (a must for every Logos user). This series of dictionaries focus entirely on a particular part of the scripture and bring depth and analysis that you will not find elsewhere. I am constantly amazed at the material that I find in the series.
This series is not a duplication of any other dictionary/encyclopedia.
some of the titles had been on sale already in the last 18 months
Most of them have been on sale 2-3 times/year for at least two years, and usually for better prices.
I was hoping for something we hadn't seen on discount such as Anchor Bible (Commentary)
Me too! AYB at 50% off...[:D]
What's more, AYB has twice as many likes as ICC.
But I've stopped hoping for anything good for Black Friday. I've bought both Christmases and both March Madnesses, but none of the three Black Fridays since I purchased Logos.
The AYB was appearing as discounted on the 'top products' page for those who have upgraded to L5.
AYB at 50% off...
Unfortunately, it was nowhere near 50% [:'(]
AYB is at the very top of my wish list. I think it will need to wait until next year... at least!
Thanks for all the feedback - just bought and busy downloading the AYBD
Excellent choice! Enjoy [:D]
There are some great resources there. However, my upgrade package from L4 Platinum to L5 Diamond, plus Hermenia / Continental Bundle is all I will be able to afford for quite some time, deal or no deal.
But I enjoy seeing the deals offered.
