When I open a new resource, most but not all of the Visual Filters are on by default. There seems to be a random pattern about this. Some are on and some are off. Is there any way to set the program to not turn on any Visual Filters by default?
If you right click on any particular Visual Filter on the VF menu and select "Do not show in any resources" that one will be off by default any time you open a new resource. You need to do that for all your VF's to get the state that you want, where none of them will be on by default.
So, the best practice would be to do this every time I create a new Visual Filter. Then I can turn it on just when I want to use it.
I suppose so. However when you first create a VF, you probably want it to be on by default (which it is) so you can check it out and see if it's working.
I've never really come up with a perfect best practice for VF's. They always seem to be on when I don't want them to be and off when I want them to be, so I have resigned myself to just turning them on or off whenever the current state is bothering me. And whenever I turn one on or off, I try to remember to turn it on/off in all resources. But I usually forget, so it's kind of hopeless.
it's kind of hopeless.
If this is so, what hope can we mere mortals possibly have? [:D]
First you turn it off in all resources, then you turn it on again in just that one resource.
Almost the only thing I have on everywhere is my 'Typos' highlighting file. Normal files and filters only ever get turned on in the exact resources where I want to see them.

Oh, you have one of those too? So do I. [:)]

Thanks, Rosie. I didn't know you could do that. Very useful.

I know. I learnt it from you.[:)]
