The forums by their nature tend to be negative. People usually post because they have a problem, suggestion, or complaint, and sometimes the manner in which they are offered could use a little more grace or charity. So I'd like to take advantage of the season and offer something positive.Big Smile

I just did a L5 Minimal Crossgrade from L4 Platinum with a number of additional resources. I chose this path because I already owned most of the books I wanted but I wanted the new databases. After working with L5 for a couple days and watching the video on new features, as a programmer in a former life I have some small sense of the magnitude of what Logos undertook and delivered. As a long-time student of the Bible and the Biblical text I am amazed at the power and depth of the program. The minimal crossgrade and the added resources that came with it are a bargain in my humble opinion. I hope that Logos recoups its investment and takes in much more. It is clear that besides taking care of its staff, Logos is continuing to invest in developing tools for the Christian community--just take a look at Biblia.com and Faithlife.com. When we buy a Logos product we are all in a small way contributing to the growth of the Kingdom.

Is L5 perfect? No, as in any project this size there will be bugs that have to be worked out. I suggest that if we viewed ourselves as partners with Logos in Kingdom work rather than just as customers things would be much more pleasant all around.

So thanks, Logos. Thanks for what has been a premier product for a long time and that has only gotten better with age. May God bless you in all your endeavors and may you keep your eye on the things that truly matter.

And thanks to all those who Liked the Anchor Bible Dictionary and helped put it on the Black Friday sale!

Blessings,
--Terry

    Terry,

Thank you for reminding us to be thankful for what Logos has done. I have been thoroughly enjoying the great improvements in L5 for the last 2 weeks.

Some of the resources in the Platinum pkg justified me doing that upgrade.

I have been especially thrilled with the Exposition on Prayer. Where else are you going to find 2900 pages of commentary on every prayer in the Bible?

I also got a great price by adding the AYBD at the same time I upgraded.

Both of those items had been on my wish list for some time.

    Thanks Logos.

Noticed Anchor Bible Dictionary (ABD) preface includes (added Bold emphasis):

If it really will be another generation before the next major English-language dictionary of the Bible is attempted, one senses that the ABD may in fact be one of the last of its kind. Somehow one suspects that the next major English-language Bible dictionary may not be something one “purchases” but something to which one “subscribes” (complete with annual updates and revisions); that—like money—its primary medium will not be ink-on-paper but electronic impulses (complete with three-dimensional, interactive, color graphics); that it will not be something you place on your shelf but that you load into your computer. Despite all the exciting possibilities this presents, it is also a bit discomforting. Perhaps more than anyone else, we who study the Bible should appreciate the power and the impact of the immutably printed word that, for better or worse, reflects an age and a perspective that cannot easily be erased or revised.

Do you realize the Black Friday price is $55 higher than the 'Customize' price you qualify for because you upgraded?

I agree, and, for the record, I sent Bob an email last week apologizing for my rants about the L5 release.  I apologize to all of you as well.[:$]

We all have those moments occasionally. Many—most—don't have the intestinal fortitude to apologize (that requires admitting that you were wrong).

I have to post my appreciation again today.

I was able to utilize several of the new L5 features in teaching my Sunday School class today. I'm amazed at the powerful tools available to my fingertips.

    Thank you Logos.

Thank you Bob and for enduring the criticism and steadily providing an ever-improving tool for Bible study.
