L5 is faster.
Except that clicking on Layouts requires a 2+ second wait before anything happens.

I've noticed that with layouts as well. Otherwise, Yes, L5 is much faster!
There is definitely a speed boost in L5 over L4. As Richard and David mentioned the pause to open the layout menu is around 2 seconds but I consider it a minor annoyance that will hopefully get patched out soon.
While it is impossible to do a side by side comparison at this point I firmly believe searching to also be optimized to a noticeable degree in L5. On a side note I am absolutely crazy about the new default font as well so much easier on the eyes and aesthetically pleasing.
I totally agree about the default font! I can read much longer portions now without getting tired eyes!

Logos 5 still isn't that fast in producing more colour options. One wonders why. Am I in the wrong thread? :-}
I take it that L5 is 64-bit. Doesn't this account for (some of?) the increase in speed all of us are appreciating?
Not sure, I'm still 32bit.
No, L5 is still 32 bit as far as I know. A lot of the speed improvement is an updated version of .NET under it. However, there are numerous other little improvements here and there that makes it overall faster than 4.
EDIT: Also, on Windows (soon to be on Mac we're told), a new display engine was coded which increased speed.
64-bit primarily means larger data spaces and larger memory capacity, but it also means fetching data/instructions that can be twice as long as 32-bit. The 32-bit execution model in 64-bit OS/hardware is very efficient, so "faster" isn't necessarily an attribute of 64-bit programs.
