I have been letting Logos 4 install all day. It has been reading "Logos Bible Software is downloading updates (0% of 81.MB) for the last 13 hours. What should I be doing? Leave logos 4 open, close it? restart the computer? .....
If you haven't had any progress with your download check your connection, can you access the internet? If you can I would restart Logos and/or restart your computer.
I restarted the computer and download status in the apple menubar still says the same thing (downloading updates 0% of 8.1 MB). activity monitor shows no activity. good internet connection. running 10.6.2 on a new 27" iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB ram. when i load Phil 1:21, the first four (left and center) panels load with information but the right 2 don't (Information and Text Comparison both say "No view exists for this panel kind).
any recommendations?
Mike
As for the downloads I have no idea, there must be a bug that keeps it from downloading. The "No view exists for this panel kind" means those are features not yet incorporated into the Mac version.
Mike,
Did you get your issue resolved? Did the updated resources ever download for you?
If that happens, you can safely "Cancel Downloads" from the menu if it gets stuck. It should restart the next time you restart Logos or when you next log in.
I'll look at the downloader code to see if I can spot anything obvious that might cause it to hang.

I did as you instructed and cancelled the activity. When I restarted the application, the update started again and was done downloading and indexing within 3 minutes. The program seems to run but the home screen is blank. Is that normal?
At this point, the home page is blank, but you can still access books and other items via the menus and the search bar...
I'm having the same problem, however I don't see any menu item that lets me cancel the download. In fact, none of the menu items work at all. I just have the small download screen that says 0% of 2.84 GB downloading...
Well, I finally found a small icon (Logos) on the menu bar of safari. That allowed me to cancel all. I trashed the install and restarted my computer to make sure all had been deleted. I then reinstalled Logos for Mac. This took a couple of trys but it finally worked!
Thanks
I have yet to get beyond "Preparing your library..." window on any version. I have uninstalled and re-installed multiple times including this morning for alpha 5 now. On a couple of the previous releases I have allowed it to run for an hour or so with no progress. Is this the "Indexing" or am I not even getting that far?
The preparing your library screen might be displayed for quite a while, especially after initial installation. It's examining all of your resources and cataloging them to prepare for the indexing process (we'll often call this process "discovery"). Upwards of an hour seems a bit long, but not necessarily out of the question, depending on the number of resources in your library.
During that stage, unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot of obvious feedback given to the user about what is going on. However, you should be able to open the log file(s) in <your home directory>/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Logging (e.g. Logos4.log or Indexer.log) to see what, if anything, is going on. If the app crashes or stalls indefinitely without any activity, you can post the logs here on the forum, which will help us to get a better idea of what may be going on.
I had the same problem. I let it run for a day or so before selecting "cancel all" then it started discovering all my local resources. During the hours of no activity, all I had in the log was an entry like:
2009-12-02 17:02:21.6517 3 Info SyncManager (Timed) Downloading items.
2009-12-02 17:02:22.3124 3 Info SyncManager (660ms) Downloading items.
Every five minutes or so. There was an error reported earlier:
So, perhaps it never restarts?
