If anyone has created a collection on Bible Characters can you pass on the search criteria you used to do this? Thanks!

    For starters, use this rule:

    subject:"Bible--Biography"

Todd's suggestion gets some of them but not all (as he said). My collection is mostly manual as I couldn't come up with a good rule. Tagging might be the solution, then you have just a little work to do when adding a new volume to your Library.

I've manually tagged mine with BibleChar. I used subject:"Bible--Biography" and communitytag:biography to find ones I might have missed (I appended ANDNOT BibleChar to each of those filters so I wouldn't have to wade through ones I'd already found). Here's the bibliography of what I came up with:

I basically hand built the list then converted what I could to criteria - very much based on title names in my own collection.

title:(David, Elisha, Joseph, Nathan,Names) ANDNOT series:"Works of Flavius"

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

  • If anyone has created a collection on Bible Characters can you pass on the search criteria you used to do this?

Wiki has =>  http://wiki.logos.com/Example_Collections that includes Biography.

Personally using rule for a Biography collection:

    (subject:Biography AND type:(Encyclopedia,Monograph)) OR title:"English Baptists"

Wow, you folks are amazing. I knew some of the information but I knew enough to know that I didn't know everything I needed to know. [:)]

I thought that I would probably have to add quite a few manually because not all are covered by subject:"Bible--Biography". I thought of tagging but that is a lot of work and I'm still not sure if it would cover them all.

Rosie, I especially like your suggestion to use communitytag:biography too. That is quite the bibliography Rosie!

    Thanks everyone.

Expanded rule a bit to incorporate MJ's suggestion, which nearly doubled collection size while adding more biographical resources:

    (subject:Biography AND type:(Encyclopedia,Monograph)) OR (title:("Christian History",Elisha,"English Baptists",Joseph,"Life of David",Names) ANDNOT series:Josephus)

I thought of tagging but that is a lot of work

It's not a huge amount of work, since large groups of them can be listed by using library filters (such as subject:"Bible--Biography" or if you see something in my bibliography that a filter would pick up a lot of, use that, for example "Learning Life Principles from"; "Bible Biography"; "Bible Characters"; or "Greater Men and Women").

Then once you get your library showing a small number of books all of which (or most of which) you want to tag with the same tag, you can multi-select them (click on the first of a group of resources, then Shift+click on the last in that set and it will select the whole set between where you clicked first and where you clicked with Shift held down). You can add (or subtract) individual titles to the multiple resource selection using Ctrl+click. Be careful when doing multi-select to click on a column other than the book cover or the title, since that will open the book instead of selecting it.

Once you have a bunch of resources selected, you can tag them all at once by clicking on "add tag" in the info panel at the right.

So you can probably tag all the books you have currently which are about Bible characters in a few minutes if you're adept at selecting and clicking and typing.

Try various other filters like names of Bible characters you know of (in the title and the subject field, not the author field) to see if there might be other books you've missed that are about an individual character. For example title:Abraham OR subject:Abraham -- and then skim through all the titles that match to see if any ought to be tagged. Change both instances of Abraham to another well-known Bible character that you think might likely be covered in a book, say, David.

You don't have to get it perfectly complete the first time. As you're using Logos over the coming weeks if you stumble across a book you missed, you can just tag it then and it will automatically get added to your collection.

Thanks Rosie. I appreciate the advice and plan to work on tagging more books.
