I'd like to have a reading mode where the other windows grow dark and i can just concentrate on one tab.

No. There is a reading view… its not very good. Click on your resource's menu (book cover) and select "reading view." The screen shot below is what you will end up with… This was on my laptop. On my widescreen iMac, it is much more ridiculous (5-6 columns). You can make it one column if you like… but that is worse. The previous screen shot was in another thread where I had made this same recommendation… It was a screen shot from Apple's "Pages" reading view.
