Timeline in Logos 5- A advertisment Misrepresentation!

As I was doing my studies and I was very excited to use the timeline feature in the L5 but somehow I could not find it until I search this forum and realised that it only comes with the bronze package!

I think Logos has misrepresent yourself if you said it comes with Logos 5, the truth it doesn't and only comes with logos 5 minimum bronze package should be exact. I think it is a misrepresentation of your product and I for one was drawn to this feature when I upgrade my L4 to L5 started.

Sadly, low and behold now I found out it is not with L5 starter. I hope Logos can make it clear to other buyers as you can be sued for misrepresentation of your products! MAKE SURE you put big print that it has to be bought separately in the future or with the bronze package!

While I am sorry you didn't get what you thought you were promised, you can have a full refund. Please call Logos sales and explain, and everything will be taken care of. You can still use L4.

Should you rather stick with Logos 5 and still get the timelines, sales should be able to tell you what your cost would be if your RETURN Starter and upgrade from L4 directly to Bronze. You could also purchase the Minimal Upgrade from Stater, which would give you all the features of L5 for about $83.

Hi Mark many thanks for your prompt reply. I have checked about what you have mentioned... upgrading Starter L5 to bronze for $83.

I just went to the upgrade tab in Logos website and they showed me that I owned a L5 started and gave me different packages that I can upgrade to.... the bronze package "Your Price" is however $299.96!

Can you please advise me how you manage to get $83? and should I upgrade from L4 to bronze how much will it be?

Btw, can I know are you working for Logos or just a user as well?

You get the $83 price by clicking on the left-most column (Minimal Crossgrade). Your price should be in the neighborhood of $83 but could be a little lower depending on other resources you may already own.

The MC gives you most of the datasets and functionality of a full L5 package. One thing you need to know is that Timelines work off of the resources you own. The more resources you have that include timeline data the 'bigger' your timeline will be. The Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible (in Bronze and above) is fully tagged for the Timeline and the Timeline will show links back to BEB articles mentioning the dates and events on the timeline. The ISBE also is well tagged this way. (It is available at a lower cost than normal for upgraders. See https://www.logos.com/topproducts .)

If you decide you want the Bronze package, don't upgrade to it now that you have Starter. Call Logos sales and 'return' Starter. Then you will get a better price to upgrade from L4 to L5 Bronze. (Discounts go down once you upgrade the first time.)

I would concur that the core datasets seem to include the Timeline however..... one would have to ask

1) whether all the good resources (books) and datasets in the MC are not worth it - they seem a very good deal and;

2) if someone goes the Core Datasets route can then they re-crossgrade to the Minimal Crossgrade? I don't think they can which means they have missed out on the resources / datasets of the MC.

So is saving the difference between $80 vs $135 worth it?

When I purchased the upgrade the Starter Edition listed an additional 191 resources to be added to my library (based on my current library) when I went to the checkout. I only received 49. The missing 142 resources are listed as coming with the Starter Upgrade on the above web page. Is the Matrix wrong??

Many of those missing resources listed were what enticed me to purchase the Starter Edition rather than a different one.

I think some of those resources might still be in the development stage. I'm sure you will get them, but I do think Logos rather jumped the gun in announcing something they were not able to ship immediately. It would have been better to hold off a bit. I imagine the reason for the haste was the rollout of Windows 8 with .NET 4.5 (which breaks Xp systems).

No offense to the OP (who I agree with) but Logos' marketing is somewhere between comedy and tragedy. It's kind of like a break in a bridge ... you see cars coming along and sure enough they fall over into the large crack and drop to the river. At first it's a shock .... someone should warn the cars!! But no one does. At last, you just sit back and laugh, the whole thing is so surreal (as if surely this can't be happening).

(George: the number of ressources still under construction is afaik single-digit and since those of which I heard all relate to original language stuff, I doubt that Starter is affected of these at all)

Steve ... your experience is not uncommon. The page you used is confusing. It's kind of like one of those puzzles where if you look at it one way, vs another.

They purposely put almost no explanation on their web pages (that erect 2-legged creatures can make sense of). I made the same mistake you made. But I had no intention of actually buying those 191 books, since I know their background (at Logos).

No I did not misread. My chart is different. It looks to me that each matrix is based upon what you have in your library. The screenshot in my post above has the first column as minimal upgrade and second as the starter.

It's weird that the order is different, but Timeline isn't included in Starter on your chart either. No dot in that column.

I wish I could sit down with you in person… I think it would be easier to explain… but you are not reading the charts right at all! First, you need to understand that there are columns which show each base package. The column on the far left is the minimal cross grade. The "starter" package is the one just to the right (the second column).

Notice in the above screen shot that there is a light blue box under the "bronze" base package. The bronze package is "selected" and this will assist you in the columns below. In my second screen shot, notice that there are NO circles to the left. That means that the minimal cross grade and the starter package do NOT include the Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible.

In the following screen shot, I have taken yours, cropped and annotated it. The pink column is the starter package. Notice that there is NO dot next to timeline. The blue column (minimal cross grade) does have it. Does this explain things better?

all of these are in the third column = Bronze Package. When you select one package on the page, it will shade the respective column and also make the grey dots into a solid black, thus helping to differentiate between those resources/datasets in or out of a package.

I think it is relevant that I have a different screen. Here is the top of mine similar to yours, but I cant highlight or “select” the column as you adeptly put it. When the mouse hovers over the Icon I cannot click, but only the word “compare” does appear below it. I can make a screenshot of that but that would be irrelevant.

I owe an apology to you, fgh, George and Mick. While writing this post I see that the columns on my web page are skewed to the icons at the top (the icons being Starter, Bronze, Portfolio). I did not notice there are no dots directly under Portfolio. On my screen shot the Portfolio dots are directly under the Diamond Icon and the Bronze dots are directly under the Starter.

I sincerely apologize for making this mistake and having you all to make the posts.

You clearly have an issue with your version of internet explorer. What version are you using? What OS? It might be important for the web devs to know about. I am on Mac, so I can't trouble shoot with you. Sorry! Have you tried to use a different browser? Is IE up to date?

As for "selecting" the column… this is done by clicking on the base package image.

Good… you are supposed to. Try clicking on the black package (far right). You might need to click on it a couple of times. I am hoping when you do, you will see the dots on the right darken up.

I have a fiber connection. It was the browser, reinstalled and working correctly now (interestingly, the resources are now in the order of the screenshots provided by alabama24. ie Timeline is no longer at the bottom).

I misunderstood the meaning of the black package (it was 1 am). I incorrectly thought alabama24 meant when I clicked on one of the packages a black box would pop up. When I click it now, it highlights the column and gives info about the package between the icons and columns. Alabama24, thanks for the help too.
