Why is my credit card information required for free downloads?

I purchased the Bronze package a few weeks ago and I wanted to download the December free book.  As I went through the process, I was asked for my credit card information.  If the book is free and my account can be verified by my email address, then why am I being asked for payment information.

Being extremely wary of floating my credit card info out on the net any more than is needful (yes, I know the site is secure), it seems illogical payment information would be needed to acquire a free download.

Hi Kevin.  Welcome to the forums.  

Unfortunately, Logos' website is set up in such a way that it requires a credit card to be registered, even where you seek to download a free resource.  Where users do this, they will obviously not be charged for downloading a free resource.  I believe I saw a post from a Logos employee saying they're looking at trying to update the website to avoid this issue, however no timescale was given for when it will be implemented.  In the meantime, if you want to download free resources (of which there are quite a few - especially on Vyrso), you'll need to enter your card details.
