I know the Bible Sense Lexicon is a work in progress. However, I have a few suggestions/questions:
- It would help to have a table of contents, so a person could browse through the entries as in a regular lexicon. As it is, there is no way to tell what it contains.
- I appreciate that you can hover over an English word and see Greek and Hebrew words. I would like the option to see the list of Greek/Hebrew words as an additional level in the chart to the right of the English words. This could be turned on or off in the Panel Menu.
- What is the source of the definitions and groupings by semantic domains? To be useful as a scholarly source, this should be documented, including the author's names. If it is automatically generated, what Bible or databases is it taken from? We need more information about this database really is and how the information is gathered.
- Is there any way to search a Bible from a particular semantic domain?
- It would help to be able to enter Greek/Hebrew words as entry points to see the semantic range and to view words in the same semantic domain. Perhaps this is planned.
- It would be nice to be able to search from the pop-up context menu in the Bible (English/Greek/Hebrew)
- I would like to be able to have a history of words viewed in the lexicon. The usual back and forward arrows to go to previous entries would help as well as the ability to open the history list of just this lexicon.
- The main list of Greek and Hebrew words is incomplete for many entries. When you hover over the subdomains of a word you can see the Greek/Hebrew words for each subdomain. But the main entry only lists a few. For example, "animal" does not list τετράπους (which comes up in the Bible Word Study) nor θηρίον (an generic word for animal used in the NT and listed in Louw-Nida).
- Is the intention to replace Louw-Nida or to make the information on semantic domains more accessible to a wider audience? If it is supposed to open up semantic domains to a wider audience, including those with limited ability in Greek/Hebrew, it is surprising that it is not available to a lower base collection than Gold.
- It would help to list the Low-Nida numbers for each domain/subdomain. If your domains are different, you could still list multiple Louw-Nida numbers by saying something like "see LN 4.3-4".
I will watch with interest to see how this tool develops.
