The Dictionary for Theological Interpretation

I have included this dictionary in my prioritized list yet when I search no entry or article is showing in the report list of articles from the different dictionaries from this book. Three examples would be - Genesis, Creation and Galatians.

Is there something wrong?

Sorry I don't fully understand.

What type of search are you doing - can you give an example of the actual search you are doing?

Is this a basic search, a Bible Word Study or something else?

On a headword search it shows in the search results (TDI) but not the 'Look it Up' section (and no 'More' showing).

Dear Graham,

Many thanks for your patience. I am left clicking on the search icon that looks like a magnifying glass, then, Basic - All Text - Entire Library.

I hope this explains my method. This produces article from all my other dictionaries.

Hi Colin

Thanks for the clarification - this is consistent with what DMB reported above.

The problem is that it is only resources which have been particularly tagged by Logos which appear in that section and it appears that this Dictionary isn't one of them.

There is an old thread at http://community.logos.com/forums/p/11747/91883.aspx which outlines this issue.

Hopefully someone from Logos will be able to comment on whether this dictionary will be included in the future - if indeed this is the issue.

What version of Logos do you have?

In Logos 5, a Topic Guide on "Book of Genesis" does return links to the Dictionary for Theological Interpretation.

Oh Colin ... it's easy (and you probably know how but forgot).

In the same search panel your were using (Basics), click on the blue 'All Text' and then click on the itty-bitty arrow to 'down' and it shows you all the choices. You'll see 'Headword' a ways down. I usually also include 'Large Text' too in the same search.

Hi DMB, the down arrow underneath all text produces a Find box and underneath two options only - SEARCH FIELDS - HIGHLIGHTER PENS - but no 'Headword'.

That's the arrow beside 'Search fields'. But I think she meant 'Heading', not 'Headword'.

Yes, Colin ... as you can observe, I am frustratingly sloppy. Regarding the check offs, not sure why 'all' wouldn't pick it up. It's always a toss up between 'headings' and 'large text' as to how a discussion will be picked up. (Depends on the book though DTI, it seems like it would be 'headings').

How good is this dictionary? I read somewhere in a post that it was a big disappointment. Either way, I'm not interested in it, I just hope we get better offers than the ones we've had so far.

Gee, DAL. What if DTI is the absolutely best dictionary EVER WRITTEN? You'd miss out!

But since my sister who busies herself with her hubby teaching the gospel in Africa, I thought I'd randomly cut a swath of TDI for your logical consideration. I highlighted some of the key passages:

Biblical Exegesis in Independent Africa
A growing corpus of biblical interpretation is emerging in independent sub-Saharan Africa. Little of this literature is satisfied with the historical-critical paradigm that tries to sever exegesis from the hermeneutical task. While often using Western exegetical tools, African readers always make the attempt to relate the text to their contemporary situation. The context of the reader (the world “in front of” the text) tends to be a higher priority than the context of the text (the world “behind” the text).
Actually, this individualistic way of stating the issue needs correction. No African would consider the individual alone as the interpreter. John Mbiti sums up the worldview of the African with the words “I am, because we are” (Mbiti, Religions, 108). The dialogue, therefore, is not so much between reader and text as between community and text. The African reader of the text cannot be separated from her or his context in the community.

This isn't unusual ... essentially you have kind of keep in the back of your mind which group (in this case a specific small? group in Africa) is being discussed, and suspend common sense concerning similar behaviors with 'western' readers.

Well, since I know it's not the best dictionary ever written, then I guess i'm not missing out on anything [;)] [:P][A]

By the way, your excerpt didn't really help make a case for the best every written, I guess since I'm not in that part of the country it doesn't really help me. Anyway, I'm glad it's useful to you.
