Believers Bible Commentary in Logos4

If it is an old v2 resource then there is no other way to navigate or use it as intended. what is the version which you get from the Resource Information page (press the circled i) e.g. this is my resource

I've never heard anything like this (especially since it is against everything Bob tells us about being able to use resources from ver 1.0 onwards.) Could you post a screenshot like Dave did? Your description reads like the resource you have is regarded as a monograph rather than a bible commentary and lacking the bible index.

This would mean that the resource is technically another book for Logos (not a commentary and not the same as the Believer's Bible Commentary we others have). Or the index is just broken. Maybe the resource wasn't carried over properly?

this is the resouzrce info for either a Vyrso book (unlikely) or for a Personal Book you made in 2011. Maybe you took the Commentary to Word and then built a PB from it? I did this once with another resorurce and wondered why the Logos formatting of footnotes wasn't up to par to other commentaries.

You may use such commentaries in Logos, but you need to make sure to put the correct milestones in them and compile them as type Bible Commentary to make the scrolling along etc work.

However, if you own this in Logos 2.1 format, you should be able to import it into Logos 3, then synchronize the licence and L4 will download the correct resource with all the links etc for you..

Walton I don't know where you got your copy from but I note it is an e-book not a Logos edition. (see under title in your screen shot and compare to Dav's (which is same as mine). Your's says it was last updated in 2011 mine is a logos edition and was last updated in 2010 and works fine. I can enter a bible reference in the and have it go directly to that spot in the book. Your's also has a completely different file name compared to Dav's screen shot. You seem to have a substandard copy of the resource. It is not listed on Vyrso site but I wonder if you did purchase it from there but it has been removed from the site since you purchased it due to complaints about it or it was removed because it was simply overlooked a full logos version exists. e-book format is normally for Vyrso purchases.

Yes. It shows this really is a Vyrso resource (which are all type Monograph) and lacks the bible index. This is a weird resource, indeed!

Edit: Exactly how did you upgrade from 2.1 to Logos 4? Via L3/Libronix? Did Logos Customer service just "activate" your licenced products from the past (and maybe took the wrong one?) Do you see the BBC-resource in your order history at Vyrso.com?

I got this book from Sunrise Software in Scotland as part of a package from "Nelson's Electronic Bible Resource Library." It came on a CD along with other commentaries such as "Thru the Bible," J. V. McGee and "Wuest's Word Studies In the Greek New Testament," and others.

All the others work fine.

I had never heard of 'Vryso' and certainly never bought from them, nor was this a personal book. It was simply another commentary.

I notice in the resource info the 'index' is blank which may be the cause of the problem.

I still have the original CD with the books on it. The refs. to Believer's Bible Commentary are:-

Logos4 may be reading it as an ebook but it came from NEBRL/Logos.

yes. However, these files do work no more in any recent version of Logos software.

I upgraded from 2.1 via Libronix 3.

Typically during this process files are somehow imported and converted to Libronix 3 files (I've never done this myself, some of the "veteran users" need to chime in here), thus Logos 2 resource would work in Libronix, along with "native Libronix" files such as in more current Nelson eBible packages or other boxed CD-ROM sets. It seems that Libronix somehow recognizes licence information for the Logos 2 resources.

Now Logos 4 and 5 can't read the Logos 2 format, but they can use the Libronix format, although many resources have been converted into the .logos4-format now. These are the technical file formats.

Within the technical format for L4, Logos internally differentiates between

books produced by Logos with indexes etc ("real Logos", full-fledged, whatever), which can be a variety of different resource types, including bibles, bible commentaries, daily devitionals etc,
books produced by Logos from publisher-delivered eBook files through an automated bible-reference tagging algorithm which can be only of type monograph and have no indexes, and
books produced locally by a so-called Personal Book compiler running over Word files, automatically tagging bible references but also including additional information supplied by the user and capable of producing nearly all types of Logos resources.

The last two can be identified through long numerical sequences as filenames, that's why PBs came into consideration. Your commentary howerver claims to be from the eBook variant (which is not really suitable for commenatries at all, since to scroll with a bible and allow for looking up the tretament of a verse directly, a bibkle index is necessary). Until this thread, the eBook variant was known only for books sold via the Vyrso platform - which does have a small number of commentaries.

For users who run Libronix on their machine, the upgrade from Libronix 3 to Logos 4/5 (and vice versa, as long as L3 resources exist for the L4 resource) is usually just a matter of synchronizing licences. Otherwise, Customer Service may activate the licence to ones account upon proof of purchase (in case of L3 resources usually knowledge of the unique, 16-digit alphanumeric key printed on a sticker somewhere on the CD-ROM package). Howvere, this is a manual process and CS might input the wrong licence into the database.

It seems, the BBC with copyright '89 but caliming to be '95 in its citation info exists as a Vyrso-like-resource from 2011 (maybe they sold it for a short period of time - but this surely would have been discussed and I couldn't find anything on the forum -, or they planned to sell it there but cancelled the palnning), whereas the BBC with copyright '95 cited as '95 is a real Logos resource, last updated in 2010.

Normally, Logos doesn't have the same resource as eBook and Logos, when they plan to make a Logos resource from a Vyrso book, they retract the Vyrso offer and upgrade the books for the user. I would expect them to upgrade you to the Logos version (especially if you had full functionality under 2.1 and Libronix), since the stated principle is you never pay twice for your resource. However, due to the different copyright dates, maybe these are two different editions (as there are for some classics).

Maybe someone who owns this commentary from L2 days can check whether they have the same as you or the version we others have (mine came from the Libronix WEA CD-ROM).

Logos 2.x resources will work in Libronix (L3) and Logos 4 (presume L5 as well?). This resource (the BBC) was converted to L3 format and then Logos4 format, retaining the same file name BLVRCOMM.

That is the file name for Believer's Study Bible! What do you mean by "refs."

The original Nelson package includes the Logos 2.1 files that should enable you to have a fully functioning commentary, especially as you first upgraded to Libronix. Does the CD contain BLVRCOMM.LIX and BLVRCOMM.LSF, or even BLVRCOMM.lbxlls?

Sorry, you are right. The refs I gave are not those for BBC but I do have them on CD No.2. They are, BLVRCOMM.LIX & BLVRCOMM.

I used the term 'refs' because there are two files for this commentary as shown above.

Then you have the files & licence for the Logos Edition of BBC, but the question is whether Logos have your licence?

copy these files into Libronix resource folder and see if BBC is unlocked (there may be two, so use Help > About this resource to distinguish them)
If unlocked synchronize licences in Libronix; then
- in the Command box of Logos 4 enter update resources & you should get a download + indexing
- if you now have 2 x BBC's then Hide the eBook version

If any of these steps fail you should contact Logos Support and refer them to this thread, as I can't see why you would not get a licence if the other titles on the CD are available in Logos/Libronix.

I have had one reply from them asking about how they can contact me as they feel it would be better done verbally. I am in N. Ireland so land line phone is out and I do not have Skype, (although I suppose I could install it). I suggested email chat but they have not come back as yet.

I have re-installed L3 and copied my library into the appropiate folder and most things appear to be working satisfactorily, (including BBC). I can now navigate it the way I should.

This suits me fine as I never really warmed to L4.

I still await Logos to sort it out and I intend to keep it on my PC and use it but the important thing for me is I have use of all the books I paid for and as I said previously Believer's Bible Commentary is the one I use most so I am glad to have it back.
